Another bull bar option for the stock steel bumpers right here. Sorry, @flyingmonkey, not trying to steal your thunder!

Last night I installed the @Maximus-3 "SLP Hoop." Easy enough to do that I completed the job in very low light, pretty much by feel! The finish was typical Maximus-3 fantastic and I encountered no fitment problems whatsoever. The little metal Maximus-3 tag (not really shown in the pics) was gratefully inconspicuous and a very classy touch.

Pros: I love the looks of this thing. It is similar to the MOPAR's low profile hoop, but without the worry of winch clearance. Indeed, its just a little bit taller without becoming ungainly. I also love the fact that Maximus uses 2.5 inch tubing whereas most others use 2 in tubing. The resultant look is beefier/better. What more, the contours allow the owner to choose between either a slightly laid back or a forward facing tilt. I chose the former for a more integrated look..

Cons: Its not inexpensive at $269.99 for just the hoop itself. I also purchased the optional $40 "reinforcement brackets" designed to tie the hoop into the frame instead of just to the skin of the bumper. However, I'm not convinced they were worth the money as it only ties into the rearmost hoop bolts. What would have been significantly better would have been if those brackets could be tied into the front bolts, or better yet, both bolts on each side. As is, I don't believe they would help much in an impact - but perhaps better than nothing!

Overall, I would definitely purchase again despite the relatively high cost. Everything (also peep the font license plate holder) I've bough from Maximus (also peep the "Stealth" license plate bracket) has been top quality in terms of fit, finish, and (but for the dubious reinforcement brackets) well designed/conceived.

I give this product 4 of 5 stars! Well done!

I was very interested in the Diabolical slipstream, but unfortunately, it was not available for the 2 door when I started this project, and I need secure storage for the summer, considering top and doors came off for the season a few days ago. I will say that I believe the Diabolical product to be well worth the money, after designing and building my own cargo enclosure. If I had been paying for labor and adding profitability, it would have easily gotten to the price point of the Slipstream product, and the Slipstream product is definitely superior to my one-off.

My criteria was as follows:
  • Security—locking tailgate must secure the cargo area.
  • Watertight—Intended to leave exposed to elements, need storage area to be sealed for luggage, supplies, etc.
  • Load carrying capacity—250 lbs. dynamic load—I am mounting my 37” spare tire/wheel on top.
  • Must mount to allow soft top installation with enclosure in-place.
Material choices:
  • Marine grade HDPE (King Starboard) after researching materials. This material is waterproof; pre-finished in my color (my Jeep is black—but it comes in several shades of white and gray, as well); tough; light weight; relatively inexpensive; and I could cut it with circular and jig saws, which I already owned.
  • 80/20 aluminum extrusion because it is light and versatile (definitely not cheap though!).
  • 5/16-18 hardware, to keep it simple and standardized. I chose to use standard hex head bolts, but security cap screws could be employed for the top if an additional measure of security is desired.
This basic design can be modified to suit a person’s specific application. I chose to make a full bolt-down top, since I intended to mount my spare tire above (I used a Wilco bed mount with a bicycle combination lock for security). It could also be designed with a clamped removable and/or hinged lid of varying size, by locating the cross member at location to suit specific needs.

A door or port could also easily be added behind the driver’s seat with a combination locking latch for quick access to the storage area from the cockpit.

Materials:
  • 60” & 48” 80/20 1.5” series 15 aluminum extrusion
  • 72” x 1.5” x 1.5” aluminum angle
  • Right angle supports, series 15
  • Internal angle connectors, series 15
  • Heavy duty internal angle connectors, series 15
  • 4-hole right angle gusset supports, series 15
  • 1” ratchet shipping straps
  • ¼” D rings
  • Plastic end caps
  • 5/16-18 hex cap screws with t slot nuts (for frame assembly)
  • Lot 5/16-18 hex head bolts, with lock nuts, fender washers, neoprene washers (for skin mounting)
  • 1 ½” x 3/8” closed cell foam gasket material, adhesive 1 side
  • 1” x 3/4” closed cell foam gasket material, adhesive 1 side
  • ¼” x 1/8” closed cell foam gasket material, adhesive 1 side
  • 3/8” Marine C trim
  • 5/16”-18 x 1 1/2” adjustable furniture feet
  • 3/8” marine HDPE 4’ x 8’ sheet
  • (2) 1/8” marine HDPE 2’ x 4’ sheets
Assembly steps:
  1. Construct A frame and legs from 80/20. Tap bottom of each leg for 5/16-18 thread, attach feet. D rings are attached to the rear legs, and a shipping strap was used on each side to secure it to the roll bar pedestal.
  2. Make brackets from angle, bolt to the 80/20 frame.
  3. Create template for cutouts around roll bars (I used tongue depressors and hot glue).
  4. Cut out HDPE and mount with gaskets to make watertight and edging to get finished look.
Costing:

I ended up with a bit over $400 in materials (not counting spare tire mount), and 4 hours in manufacturing. I had about 3 hours actually assembling and installing on the Jeep.

Sorry, but I don't have more pictures at this time. The trail cover is on, it's dark outside, and rain is getting ready to roll in. If I think of it, I will add some at a later time.
thanks a ton for taking the time to write this!

Roar Armor bumper looks great! Can you comment on the install, how hard was it, any tips, mine is currently being shipped? What fog lights did you go with and were you able to use OEM style plugs or did you have to splice into the factory fog light harness?
Compared to a stock bumper install, it is rather difficult. With that said, two folks can do it okay. The winch plate is nice. Follow the instructions closely. You will NEED to expand the hole size on the outer holes in the bumper or it will be a difficult, if not impossible to get it to line up.

Install your fogs first.

I chose to splice into the LED fog light harness instead of the harness' on the vehicle. This may simplify later installs. I went with Rigid amber fog lights, since I have a 10" light bar and factory LED lights.

There is a Wilco bed mount spare tire anchor in there with a 7/8" threaded rod through a welded bolt in the deck. Has a D ring to lock on the spare with a bike lock, too
Sweet! Jeep On!!!

Installed Mopar tailgate table. Pretty easy install. I was a little irritated they left the strap connectors off the housing. I improvised by using bolts. These connectors were supposed to be riveted on already. Guess they skipped that step. You'd think for $250 sheet metal you'd be paying for a lot of QA, but apparently not..... OK I'm done... On to next mod.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the change in ride with the new setup. I’m looking to get into 35” tires. I’ve narrowed my choices to the KM3 or Falken MT01. Do the tires feel heavy? Do they feel stiff? How different is acceleration and braking? Thanks.

No difference in acceleration or braking - tires just look insanely badass. In terms of ride, I had a vibration after pick up - took to another shop to road force balance and not a single weight on the wheels. Make sure road force balanced!

Just finished putting in my new front driveshaft, wasn’t having any problems yet, more preventative maintenance. I figured since I got 3.5” of lift from my 2” Mopar lift,..... this was a good idea.....:)
