I agree that this has been a pretty big PR stumbling block for FCA. But, like my order, a lot of these orders are for dealer stock, so I assume thats why some of them are flying by, because the vehicle is literally part of getting initial stock out to the dealerships for immediate consumption.
Ordered sales are supposed to move ahead of the dealer stock, or at least that is my understanding.

In a perfect world that is what it's supposed to be. I'd be ok waiting a little longer except for the fact the ONLY change I asked my dealer for was to swap to the AST Steel Bumper Group on my Rubi and pretty much from the beginning has been telling me "I can't change the order" even after I demanded he ask his FCA rep. If I didn't have to wait this long it'd be ok but at this point I might as well have cancelled and re-ordered.

Sold orders are about as immediate consumption as you can get.

But is it a sold order? I don't remember if they said. Mine is not, and I didn't know to even ask at the time I ordered my Rubi. I am assuming FCA is sequencing all the orders as they please, thus my concern for their PR, it is sloppy.

Mine has been a sold order 4EA since beginning. OG POC has my name on it.

Pretty unacceptable. I wonder if the original orderes like yourself have somehow gotten bugged in the system. I see SO many of you quoting that your order is being made either painfully slow, or simply not being produced at all.

I've got to be honest, and i'm sure some are with me... This is starting to get a little bit ridiculous and EXTREMELY frustrating. I'm almost at the 2-month mark since I placed my order and I see other orders flying past mine. The local dealership who refused to take my order until the pricing was released now has multiple JL's arriving to their lot (I saw a few there). My dealer over a month ago was still telling me the Steel Bumper Group couldn't be added because it had been scheduled for production, and it's not even moved at all. And to make matters more confusing, even after 3-weeks in D1 I am still not even on the tracking spreadsheet as D1. As far as I can see @DanW is the only delivered 6-speed, but at this point there is tons of dealer stock in transit. For all the excitement I had to order this thing, Jeep is sure doing a number on my conversion from excitement to pissed TF off.
I am approaching week 7 myself and have had two points of movement. I went D1 according to my dealer and Jeep chat on 1/11 after exactly 30 days of waiting at D (which is what they say it can take "up to 30 days"). My dealer text me on 1/11 and told me about the status bump, and also showed me where I have an ETA of 1/25. Chat still says I am awaiting build qeue (the standard D1 answer), spreadsheet shows nada, chat says there is no ETA date in their system, my dealer confirmed again it shows 1/25 ETA (saw it with my own eyes on the system)...so its just a mess.

All that being said though we have seen those initial shipping ETAs turn into actual build start dates, so I am holding hope that my Jeep will start being built by the 26th. I dont know why my dealers system shows an ETA date but Jeep themselves cannot give me any dates. I figure Jeep customer service would have the same info my dealer sees.

I am patient because I know it will be worth the wait, and I honestly understand this is kind of expected. I mean Jeeps are in high demand, its a new build for FCA and all that so I get delays completely. But the core information and assembly line tracking has been the same since 19XX, and with technology now it should be even more real time with all the dates like other assembly plants do. Your order is awaiting parts and we estimate ----, your order will be built ---- , your order will ship ----, your order should arrive ----. They use to have VOTs which was amazing, but for whatever reason they scrapped it.

I dont believe for one second that any of that "customer orders are always above dealer orders" mess. Otherwise there would not be as many dealer "for sale" vehicles as there have been for the last several weeks with only a few customer orders being delivered.

Hold in there man, it will be worth it....but your dealer sounds like a real winner dealership (obvious sarcasm).....

Jeepers! Ordered 11/27 and as of 1/21, not in D1.

Looks like everyone who ordered a month before me is just starting to get their orders, so I figure if I get mine by 2/20, I'll be good. Crossing fingers!

Ordered 1/4/18. Hoping for a build date soon, but given what I’ve seen here I’ll not hold my breath.

I feel for everyone's impatience. Been there. Ordered 11/3 (first day you could order soft top only), delivered 1/22. Got tired of watching people who ordered 9 weeks after me go ahead of me. Never sat in D1. Straight to E from D (36 days in D) and delivered 8 days after hit E. At one point I got pretty vocal with my dealer saying he needed to talk to a rep and see what was going on. After 30 days in D he called the rep (that seems to be a limit in D to attract attention). The rep said he would see. He emailed the dealer back (and I got a copy) that said soft tops were being delayed a bit but he would make sure mine was at the front of the pack. My Jeep was definitely in the first set of soft tops through the assembly line. Normally they are placed on trains to North Alabama and it takes 2-3 weeks. Mine was put on a truck in Toledo Saturday and was at the dealership Monday am. (My dealer said the rep pulled some strings for delivery.... I'll choose to believe this as it was fast.) Note that Jeep chat told me on 1/22 that my JL was ready for shipment but had not shipped yet. 10 minutes later my dealer is calling to say it is cleaned up and ready for me to pick up.

Bottom lines:
1. I think D1 is not a helpful stage for predicting time of build. Many have skipped it completely. There were lots in D1 for weeks before I "skipped" it and now I have mine and some are still there.
2. It doesn't hurt to get your dealer involved if you have been in D for over 30 days. There may be factors delaying your build, but they might be able to get the rep to expedite the build or the delivery for you. Getting Jeep chat to check into things was not helpful for me. The dealer is your representative, let them do a little work for you (but realize they can only ask, they can't do anything themselves -- but at least they can ask.)
3. This vehicle is worth the agonizing wait. I really feel for those who ordered before 11/7 and still have heard nothing. If you didn't get a 3-5% under invoice price, it might be worth checking nearby dealerships. I could have bought one for 1% under invoice from a dealer this week (tread lightly). Not as good as the deal I got, but was considering until mine went to E. But either way, you made a good choice with the JL. You will be pleased with which ever model you got.
(will answer any specific questions... I owe Jay and Dealer Guy and this forum a lot.)

Placed order for JLU Sahara on 1/11 and still no VIN. Jeep chat and apparently they don't see it in the system:

"I have searched that VON to find no current status for the order through my system. I do not have a build order status I can provide to you for the building process that has been assigned to the vehicle."

How long did it take those who ordered in January to get a VIN and hit early stages? Should I be worried it's been 12 days and still not in the system?
I ordered in early January (been about 3 weeks) -- have the POC from the dealer with the VON and VIN. The estimated ship (probably build) date on it is February 2 and the dealer says D1 yet Jeep Chat says that this order doesn't exist and that they have no record of it. Their advice was to speak to the dealer and ask if they entered it. Is their tracking system that bad that it still doesn't show an order after 3 weeks? Isn't the dealer accessing the same information? It wouldn't have pulled a VIN and estimated date if it wasn't in the system I wouldn't think but who do you believe? Really starting to get frustrated with the arbitrary and conflicting information. For a $52k vehicle that has almost no breaks or incentives they could definitely do better -- what other brand attracts so many factory orders?

Also ordered on 1/11, got VON same day, VIN 5 days later and was in D status. Yesterday wen to D1 with an estimated ship of 2/3. Faster than I thought and fired up!

Dig deeper and good luck!
My dates and status are very similar (ordered a few days sooner) with same ship (build?) date -- according to dealer. Jeep chat says it doesn't exist however by VON or VIN. They have said this every week since I ordered it.

That sucks. Where did you order from? I wouldn't overthink it. The Jeep system is a mess. If your dealer has the info that should be good enough. Maybe trying calling jeep rather than "chat".
