Anyone install a hard wire power inverter in their JL? I have the Sport S and was looking at putting one in since I don't have the factory one and was looking for ideas.

Thanks!

Hey Jon! I see no one has answered your question!
I have the 2018 JL Sport and instead of hard wiring an inverter, this is what I use: https://amzn.to/2LoXu3A
Not only is it an inverter, it's a portable, multi-port charger! I love this thing. I'm a professional photographer and am always needing to charge up batteries, equipment, phones, laptop and such. Some of my equipment I can charge with the 12V plug, some of it I can't (like my drone chargers). I also do a LOT of camping (I'm down here in Florida) so the portability makes it nice since my inverter can be taken wherever I need it and not just in the Jeep.
It has one 120V plug, 3 12V plugs and 3 usb plugs.
When I bought mine, it was closer to $150. It's gone down 20 bucks or so. I'd buy it again at full price if I had to! Lol!
Well, I hope this helps you if you haven't found a solution yet!
Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the reply. Back in September I installed one under the passenger seat and hard wired it in. Works perfect. I have a power cable under floor mats that routes between the rear seats and to the rear end.

Hey @CypressWrangler, what inverter did you use and what gauge wire did you go with for the power supply? Did you go through the firewall? Thanks!

I'm looking for a solution here as well - I like the underseat idea - I was considering a 2000W peak inverter, and wanted to run 2 guage wire to a manual connec terminal at the battery. This would be primarily for emergency on or off-road use.

I think the underseat mount is a very good solution, but would appreciate some input on the wire size, inverter placement, and outlet placement in the cargo area - I was considering running it inside the plastic liner, and popping out one of the service ports forward or aft of the roll bar vertical member.

Anyone else got some thoughts to throw out here?

TIA -

would be curious what you ended up doing here. picked up a quality condition renogy 1000w on eBay. want to be able to charge laptop when working remotely/partner is driving, or plug in battery chargers for things like her electric chainsaw or my power tools.

under passenger seat seems optimal, but mounting may mean getting creative with some brackets to the seat mounts?

i took a closer look at this last weekend. no way 1000W is going under either of the front seats. even under rear seats doesn't seem worthwhile, as I'd like to keep those in place for now.

best I could figure out is front passenger footwell, either centered-ish adjacent to the air vent, or against the lower center console wall. slightly worried about punching holes there, and the upper half would probably still need some sort of brackets. also seeing recs in other vehicle inverter installations for an inline circuit breaker. just got a 150A blue sea but haven't sorted out where that'd be wired. definitely more of a project than originally anticipated, but ain't that just the way of it.

did you have any issues with wiring this through to the engine compartment, or is it going to its own battery system back there?

I have huge ass cable already ran fused from the main battery, through the fire wall and to the rear of the Jeep for my Stereo systems amplifier. I just tapped into that with a splce block so the wiring was already done. . . . but when i ran it wit wa snot hard at all to pull through a grommetted hole in the. fire wall. . you can use the. hole where the clutch would come through if you have an automatic transmission.
