This is a friendly forum, and I certainly don't want to cause trouble. And, after I say what I'm gonna say, that will be all I say about it. But I have to respectfully disagree about healthcare being a right. My car insurance isn't a right, nor my homeowners. Now no one can deny that health insurance is waaaay too expensive. I believe that there are reasons for that, and don't care to get into that. I also believe that single payer isn't the answer either, as I believe that is nothing more than socialized medicine. These are just my thoughts, and I know we all have a right to disagree, and I will leave it at that.
Robie, you'll discover that one of the great things about this group is that we can have these sorts of discussions without hurling insults at each other. It is truly remarkable. ;):fist bump:

No worries about stepping on any toes! I have a rebuttal for you, but I will hold off per your request. :like:

The thing is, he's got no veto power, but just a majority of the Senate in the same party. I think the real worrisome part is the President that has the Veto Power, and the tendency to act like a child and a schoolyard bully to anyone that has even he slightest disagreement with him....
Senate Democrats have tried to bring a measure to protect the Muller investigation to the Senate floor at least twice recently. He invoked a longstanding Senate tradition and blocked it. Same thing happened with the Garland confirmation hearings.

To be clear, he has no legal authority to do this, but because he is the Majority Leader, his opinion carries that much sway.

I don't think the ACA was crafted as well as it could have been. It's the result of compromising - we now mandate that insurance must cover everyone (more or less, this is a gross simplification), but kept it mostly private as far as I know. So now, you're forcing private insurance companies, who are profit-oriented, to take on the clients that they wouldn't have, because they aren't profitable. The price hikes should have been expected.

What they should have done is gone all in. I would have studied how the UK and Canada implemented it and adapted that approach moving forward. Instead, we're in limbo. :headbang:
In this I agree with you. How many thousands of pages was the ACA? and how many sneaky side laws were being snuck though the act as well?

On the other hand, Taking inspiration from Canadian or British healthcare is a good Idea. But our politicians are too busy being total opposites of each other and losing sight of the purpose of the federal government: To provide for the Common Defense and General Welfare of the people.

You don’t have a right to a car, nor to a home. You do have a right to live. I see that as a key difference.

I don’t have a dog in your healthcare fight, either. But I can tell you that if you ask any Canadian on the street what they value most about being Canadian, our universal, single payer health care is at the top of the list - including if you asked people on the right of the political spectrum. And you’re right, it IS socialized medicine. It is medicine, as a social program, because it is assumed to be a human right.

Agreed. My understanding is that the necessary compromise created a system which benefits insurance corporation the most. It benefits the vulnerable, and those needing care as well, for sure. But the medical insurance/corporate complex benefits the most.

I can decide if everyone is driven to correct my lack of movie recognition, or my dislike of the elf.

Because this, “no, no... It’s not the horror scene you imagined, it’s one FAR creepier” is definitely not a winning negotiation strategy for the latter!

Given our reaction to Dan’s modded mad max Jeep yesterday, though, I’m pretty sure it’s the former, “We don’t give a damn about your hatred of the elf - we just need to ensure you know you’re WRONG!”

I get it!

I give!

Uncle!!

Safe word!!!
