Yep...and for it to change, you have to convince a lot of very old, rich white guys to part with large sums of money. :asshat:

There are better odds for the General Forums coexisting together in peace and harmony. :giggle:
You need a Tommy Douglas.

(Premier of Saskatchewan. Created NA’s first single payer, universal health care program, in that province in the early 60s. Widely viewed as the father of universal Medicare in Canada. Voted Greatest Canadian in a poll in 2004)

But I agree. It is highly unlikely to happen in your country, despite the energy coming from the newly elected progressives in your House.

And I bet your employer pays through the nose for it too. Especially if you guys work construction.

Don't get me wrong, my coverage is mostly subsidized by my employer too.

Not to get too political, but healthcare is a right, not a privilege. There's something fundamentally wrong when a near death experience (say, a heart attack) can put you in debt for the rest of your life.
As far as I understand he's fighting tooth and nail to keep the ACA from making that price skyrocket... I don't know all the numbers but to get a new group policy with the same coverage per employee, it would be far more expensive for the company.

I do understand that a lot of people have benefited from the ACA, but a lot have had to pay more.

I have no dog in this fight though so I will not be able to express any strong opinions over health insurance, taxation etc... as a Military Retiree I get Tricare for my insurance, and having a greater than 50% disability rating the VA covers all of my healthcare (Except Dental).

Just imagine how healthcare costs would change if them idiots in the government had to pay the same as we pay!
Coupled with their propensity to Use the law , where the civilian will steer clear of it. For example, you or I would tend to avoid bankruptcy by reducing our spending and working harder.

Those learned in the law used to run up spending, increase debt, then file for bankruptcy and clear the slate. Sound familiar?

Due to my hypertension, my doc advises I steer clear of politics, so I hope everyone just leaves this alone ... :cwl:

Mitch McConnel is still in the Senate as the Majority Leader. Nothing REMOTELY progressive will get by that guy...:headbang::headbang::headbang:

:idea:You have a friend with a heated garage you are welcome to use.

She just lives about an hour and a 1/2 south of the Canadian border.

(And 1/2 a continent west). :crying:
That garage might get too HOT with you two in it!

This is a friendly forum, and I certainly don't want to cause trouble. And, after I say what I'm gonna say, that will be all I say about it. But I have to respectfully disagree about healthcare being a right. My car insurance isn't a right, nor my homeowners. Now no one can deny that health insurance is waaaay too expensive. I believe that there are reasons for that, and don't care to get into that. I also believe that single payer isn't the answer either, as I believe that is nothing more than socialized medicine. These are just my thoughts, and I know we all have a right to disagree, and I will leave it at that.

I believe the original $780 I quoted included the $32/mo for dental. I'm looking at $20-$30 for the dental portion.

The thing is, he's got no veto power, but just a majority of the Senate in the same party. I think the real worrisome part is the President that has the Veto Power, and the tendency to act like a child and a schoolyard bully to anyone that has even he slightest disagreement with him....

I know....

We were working towards universal coverage for prescription drugs until our newly elected provincial government came into power. Now time is running in reverse, and important gains are being lost.

I feel for you.

I don't think the ACA was crafted as well as it could have been. It's the result of compromising - we now mandate that insurance must cover everyone (more or less, this is a gross simplification), but kept it mostly private as far as I know. So now, you're forcing private insurance companies, who are profit-oriented, to take on the clients that they wouldn't have, because they aren't profitable. The price hikes should have been expected.

What they should have done is gone all in. I would have studied how the UK and Canada implemented it and adapted that approach moving forward. Instead, we're in limbo. :headbang:
