This your first jeep?
First real Jeep. I had a 2001 GC also. I’ve always had car plans for work (sales roles) and Wranglers were not allowed. I’m happy to join the club.

Welcome aboard captain:captain:

If you haven't found yourself waiting to get back in it and go for a drive...give it some time you will.

Got it dirty! Took it on some light snow wheeling, which was really slushy mud but good fun!

Ey, is it just me or are these things a bit slippery in the snow? Just got back from up north New Hampshire and was wheeling in the snow. When I had my 2 door back in 02' I remember putting it in 4wd and that thing gripping the snow and terrain as if it had claws...the 4 door Rubi not so much.

Drove in about 4" of snow in 4H and was quite slippery, PSI was left at 37.

We had a little bit of snowfall here also, put it in 4H to try it out and I wasn't that impressed, it did slip out when putting some gas to it.. It could just be the stock JLU Sahara tires, replacing them with 35" cooper stt pros soon.

That's what I have 35's(BFG KO2)...was told today by another "jeeper" the larger the tire the more slippage you get. I think i had 31" tires back in 02 on the 2 door - could this possibly be true? Either way i too was disappointed with its performance in the snow

That probably depends on the snow and if there is a nice sheet of ice under it or not.

That said, I am not running stock tires, but mine are 37” mud tires, so in theory mine should be worse. I played in 2wd for a bit and tried to test the tires out on pavement and then on dirt roads. My tires (Destination M/T2’s) are siped and actually gripped better than the KO2’s I had on my JK. Maybe that’s the JL or the conditions impacting it, but the JL feels more planted and those tires have some grip.

Your issue could be PSI, but that’s recommended pressure and about where I am sitting with mine for road use. The Rubi is heavy and if it starts to slide it can get some momentum behind it. Definitely a difffrent animal than a TJ! Of course, a lot has changed with vehicles in 16 years, so maybe we are all used to traction control and all the things that make cars in general handle so well, and the TJ back then was better than most while the wranglers aren’t really built for awesome balance on road.

This is true all other things being equal, as a larger footprint spreads the weight and reduces friction. Compounds have a lot to do with it and frankly a lot of the reasons other vehicles do better is their balance and all the advanced stability control. I have a 335i x drive and it’s so tough to get it to spin out unless you turn the nannies off. Even then the balance just keeps it right. Jeeps aren’t really meant to shine there. Has to be why I see so many Subaru’s in Colorado, especially this time of year.

Was slushy with powder on top...the messy slippery snow. Was just surprised how little grip it had, maybe the bigger wheel base has something to do with it?

I know, "the snow was slushy with powder on top" is the worst snow to drive in, I get it - just expected this offroad 4WD beast to have performed much better. Prob just me and my expectations

Planning to do more, stay tuned.

Question? Should I black my lower grill? or color it the same color as the bumper?

I felt the same way with my first Wrangler but just realized there are a few compromises with it. All in all it’s a great vehicle but you may find a better tire that works for you to help it a little with the slush. We usually don’t get enough snow for it to matter that much to me, but if you do that may be something to consider.
