Pollard in Boulder had one Rubicon in Granite and one sport in Red. I spent about an hour crawling around and under them.

Let's hear everything about it. I'm so glad I went with a Granite Rubi! This is killing me. Not really. Yes really, it is.

I'm headed there after work to look it over. That one is sold so I can't drive it but I'll take some pics and stuff.

I went to the San Jose (Silicon Valley) Car Show last night and saw my first JLU on display. Red Sahara with a black top. It was on a stage, roped off so no sitting in it or anything, but the attractive female model was willing to open and close doors and such for photos. They have a JK Rubicon Recon on the floor that people can mess with.

The wife liked it, but she's still happy with our existing Rubicon, so she was, "Meh". A few minutes later she sees a Dodge Charger R/T on display painted in a dark metallic red color, I forget the name of the color but it's never been seen on a Jeep. She turns to me and asks if the new Jeep comes in that shade of red, because if it does then she wants a new Jeep in that color ASAP.

So yes, the new JL does come in that (or similar) color!

Seeing a recon was one of the reasons I somehow thought a jeep what was missing from my life, lol!

No, the color she really likes and would jump on is the color the Charger comes in, the deep, dark metallic red. I've never seen that color mentioned anywhere in the color discussions on this site. Sad, because it's in the FCA corporate color inventory.

The color red that Jeep uses for the JL, certainly the one we saw, was the regular red color, firecracker red I think.

A couple dealerships in Denver have JLs listed on their sites, but they don't actually have them on the lot. I called about a JLUR yesterday and they told me it was in transit, but currently "delayed." And, not to my surprise, they couldn't give me any information on when they were expecting it.

I'm starting to think that what we thought was a flood of Jeeps coming in is actually barely a trickle. We've seen "In Transit" on hundreds of them all week, yet we only hear of barely a handful that have actually shown up at dealerships. Hmmm. Maybe the FCA phone rep who told someone it takes weeks to get to the dealer and get prepped might be right.

Anybody else see any JL's at dealerships?

Ok, just saw one at Champion Chrysler Jeep on the NW side of Indy that says it is on the dealer lot! I'm going to try and go see it tomorrow morning!

I called them and a salesman confirmed it. It is a black Sport S, and he said they'd let me sit in it and test drive it. I won't drive it, though, as I am not a potential buyer from them and I don't want to waste the salesman's time. I told him I just want to sit in it for a minute.

If I do get to sit in it, I'll post a report. I'm 6'5" tall, so I can let the tall folks around here know how it is.

Of the 113 that came up within 150 miles of me, only 1 is confirmed on the dealer's lot. However, it just showed up as on the lot this evening. The salesman told me it arrived Wednesday. So, the reality is that more may have actually showed up.

I'm wondering if dealerships aren't quite rushing to get JLs on the lots before clearing out their JKs first. None of their 2017 and 2018 JKs have discounts or prices that indicate they're trying to get rid of them quickly. I'm still seeing JK Unlimited Sports priced well above $30k.

maybe some, but i feel they'd be missing out on the other side, Im sure if moving them is a problem ( the JK) as a whole FCA will offer support.....My Jeep dealer was ordering JLs as fast as they could, without even knowing how much it was going to cost ( for stock) and they aren't even a big volume dealer ( although they are very successful).

Yes, please do -- I'm the same height as you, so I'm curious.

Here we go... Granite Crystal Metallic Rubicon at Pollard Jeep. Enjoy the pics, I tried to get shots of stuff I haven't seen already posted on the forum somewhere. It was sold so no test drive, just a walk around and sit. If you're in CO, reach out to Kaytlin Pearson at Pollard Jeep. She knows her stuff and drive a nice JK herself.

Impressions:

The color is great, especially with all the little red accents (see pics). I was worried (from the FTL vids) that the color was really dark but even with the sun just set the grey is very nice and stands out. Dark but still a gray color.

This Rubi was parked right next to a Recon JK Rubi, and the side by side didn't really make the JL stand out in overall presence. If I looked at just the JL, it had a small truck big feel to it but in a beefy way. If that makes any sense. The 33's and red tow hooks give the Jeep a legit feel of off road even parked. Looks downright mean.

33's make it look huge, and the space in the fenders if great. I have to imagine axle articulation is going to be crazy. The sliders bold to the body and I'm not sure I like that. I'd prefer they mount to the frame instead. Nothing really hung low between the wheels. There's a slight kink down in the cross members but that's all. Blindspot detection in the tail lights stick out a decent bit, though I doubt it'll catch anything with the fender right next to it. Muffler hangs low at the back but I expect most aftermarket mufflers will fill the cavity under the passenger side ahead of the rear axle. Engine bay is VERY cramped. Dual batteries will require relocating a few small items and there's certainly no room in there for an air compressor like my old TJ. Axle C's and knuckles look decently beefy.

The hardtop has the location pins for the removable panels right next to the latches so it's easy to align them. Didn't get to remove the panels but was told they're no lighter than before.

Inside the rear seats felt fine and comfy. This was a hard top with liner and it had 3-5" of headroom for me. I'm 5'9". Didn't feel crammed but definitely cozy. Dunno about two adults and a child in the rear. Maybe if they're all the distance runner type. Front seats (I didn't adjust them) felt very upright as did the windshield and dash. The view out the front (no pic, I'm dumb) is great. The hood vents make it interesting and the slope of the hood is perfect for visibility. The rear view mirror, thanks to the assist/SOS feature, it right in my way looking right. The mirror has no adjustment up or down because of these buttons and I feel this will be a problem for me. It's not outright blocking my vision, but it's in the way enough that I don't care for it.

All the buttons in the dash are reachable from where the seat was positioned. I barely had to rock forward a tiny bit to reach the Aux 4 button with a finger tip. The auto shifter felt like it was too far away in park. I'd have to adjust to reach it fully and pull it back. This probably won't be an issue when the shifter is in D or M though. Analog gauges seemed small in the cluster, I'm sure the digital speed will make up for it. They're maybe a little larger than a tennis ball.

Rear of the Jeep may just be too shallow for me to be able to sleep back there. I didn't climb in it to test, since it was already sold. But it looks to be just not quite long enough. Rear seats folder easy. and center armrest was nice. Rear hatch glass opens to a pretty tall angle. Might hit my garage door once it's lifted and all. The sport bar does hang slighty lower than the height of the door opening so mind your noggins.

Overall it does feel like an expensive bit of kit. Kaytlin said it was the first JL delivered in CO and they'll be getting more soon so I'm hoping for a nice test drive in the near future.

Just started a new thread of my impressions of a JL rubi I found in a back lot (unlocked) of a dealership here in Buffalo, NY.

Sorry don’t know how to add the link
