I prefer the Bond Villian approach. Tie your enemies down, gloat over the excessively convoluted way you're going to end them, then go have champagne and caviar.

I preferred John Wick's approach. No screwing around, he just ended them all, quickly.

Good luck having that conversation with said parents...the same parents who ride us about participation trophies (that they gave us in the first place). :facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:
Now participation awards aren't that big of a deal, You show up you put forth good effort and you get something in return. That's a good lesson.

Now to caveat this, Eliminating a bigger first prize because someone else didn't get it is bad. That teaches kids to not excel.

Conversely, parents that take any form of participation award away because anything less than 1st place gets nothing is also a bad lesson. That will teach a kid to obsess over beating everyone else so much that it sours their overall outlook on life. I mean 4th place isn't bad when you did the best you could.

I haven't seen that one, but I think "The Accountant" has a similar approach. No words, just shooting... Until you meet up with your long lost brother...

The Accountant was a bit more long range, while John Wick is more up close and personal. I won't get graphic.
Kendrick is also in Accountant, bonus!

Interesting viewpoint. My counter argument (purely as a devil's advocate) is that in life, you seldom get anything for just showing up or even for doing your best. You do things because, at some deep innate level, you want to do them. In life, that's what you get in return for doing something - the knowledge and comfort that you did that thing. If you want recognition for doing something, do it better than your peers.

No snark, but another devil's advocate: You get a paycheck for showing up and doing your job, which is a lot of what kids are slowly molded into...no more free range playing and doing what you want...start fitting into the system, little vacation, work fixed hours 8-4 (or whatever), etc. I think trophies are not great in general, but there are definitely people who want to stack their kids up and see who is best. You can motivate them without grading them against each other...ie most people in life need to push themselves to their best.

Interesting twist on the trophy thing...our 3rd grade coach hands out 2 trophies each practice (he makes his decision off to the side at the end, writes their name on them, then they bring them back next week). I really don't like that! The kids should be playing as a TEAM in practice, working their hardest and learning. Not being literally judged about who practiced the best. It just seems really weird to me all together!!!

Yeah, they could just stop giving out trophies all together...would be fine by me. People should have internal motivation to do their best trophy or not.

A regular Paycheck :devil::devil::devil:

I am a proponent of rewarding excellence and people that excel should be recognized. But I disapprove of stripping recognition away from anyone that isn't superman/woman. Imagine if Olympic athletes were sent away in shame if they didn't get a Gold Medal, or if the Military only had the Medal of Honor and nothing else.

"You crossed the finish line .02 seconds after the first place runner... You Suck!"

"You rescued 2 wounded Marines and reorganized your squad to assault through the ambush, but you didn't jump on any grenades or bayonet the enemy general.... You Suck!"

These examples are the mentality that I am against.
