I've become so insane that I made a spreadsheet with all the options I want at invoice pricing. Then I have to set to show me 2-5% below invoice so I know close to what I'll be paying.
I'm also considering the 2019's shouldn't be that far off(Don't they normally come out in October?), maybe I should get another JK just so I can browse all the "late availability options/colors and options."

How can I add heated seats without having to add the entire cold weather group?
I believe it was the Great Ape that said it is possible to order individual options without ordering a package. But the price may not be favorable. He said you have to find a salesman that knows how to work the system.

On A Sport S, if you select "Anti Spin Differential Rear Axle" and click info, it is the D44! Was this p;osted elsewhere. I know people are concerned with the D35 on the Sport, but you an get a rear D44 on sport for $595. Still have the weaker axle up front. :(

Is this build configurator stressing anyone else out?? I'm having a hard time justifying $44k for a 2dr Rubicon configured the way I want, but I'm also having a hard time removing options to get me to the price I want. I have the funds to purchase it with all the options, but $45k for a softop 2dr Wrangler(Moral dilemma):headbang:
This is a 20 year car for us. We have garage space for a 3rd car, so we're going with frivolity. It won't be a daily driver, but more of a weekend fun ride. So, we're not too concerned about cost - within reason.

Garaged 24/7 with low miles will help maintain its value. For instance, my wife's uncle's early 70s CJ is worth a lot more now than when he purchased it new. (Yes, muh inflation, etc, but other than 60s Covettes, CJs are the only cars that have actually gained in value over time.)

I would suggest that if you're looking for something more 'practical', Jeep has exited the moderate cost market. On one hand, it's ok, because I think the JL is a once-in-a-generation vehicle. On the other, the new 2018 Accord & Camry have high HP engine options, are extremely solid & reliable, and cost less than a Jeep "toy".

In fact, the new Accord can be ordered with a man 6-spd + Turbo 4. When we were at the LA show last week, there were more dudes crawling around the hopped up Accord & Type R than the amount of people at the Jeep stand. "Car guys" look for performance & bang for buck. If the Jeep ain't delivering what you want for the price you're willing to pay, you might want to check out other options.

Yes, anti spin gets you the Dana 44 rear.

You are not alone. I'll have to dig up the post, but one member had some interesting perspective on pricing. Basically they said if you compared what came standard on JL that was not included or extra on the JK the price was not that far off. Add to that, inflation and the basic fact stuff just costs more, may ease the pain.

We also do not know how the resell value will be effected, but if it's anything like the early model JK's they still hold their value to the point of irritation if you are trying to get in one.

As far as the moral dilemma, I don't believe FCA is trying to price gouge the loyal Jeep fan. It is evident to me there was a lot of re-engineering done to perfect this new generation and not just add features and cosmetic improvements.

Why the Rubicon? That joker is expensive in my mind. I'm a fan of the Sport S, seems like you get more for your $$.

I enjoy the weekend offroading/Rock crawling trip with my family, and I know I will end up with 35-37's. I think the sport would require more $ in modifications to the axles etc to perform like a Rubicon with mild modifications to the axles. I think I will just option the JKR the way I want it, and cry about it every day until I take delivery. I'm sure once I have it, I will appreciate the extra money spent. My other issue is I get bored of vehicles rather quickly. I have had 4 JK's since 2012.... Once I built them how I wanted I always sold them and started over with a new one(Never lost money on a JK, just the time I spent installing the upgrades.)

Sounds like the Rubicon is a the best choice for you. We don't have any rocks around here, only mud and sand! I couldn't get a JK after knowing what I know about the JL. Every time I drove past a JL while riding in my make-believe JK, I would know I settled. Driving it would be brutal and not a joy.

You are right, I would smack myself everytime I see a JL. Only upside is the JK has a very well established aftermarket, and for year I end up having it my JK would look/perform better than a factory JL(I would put the money saved into fixing up the JK.) The 8.4" Infotainment system, interior, and proximity entry are the things I would miss the most if I purchased another JK.

I'm going to get a JL, I already know it. I just need to forget about the price and factor in the benefits/enjoyment I will have with the new JL.

So is the Selec-Trac Worth the $595 :movember: Its the one option that I’m debating now seeing it’s cheaper than I thought it’d be.

I'm wondering too. Is not having to shift from 2 to 2H really worth $595? I don't know.

I'm dying for a Punk'n since I missed the boat on Mango Tango. Built mine and coming in just over $50,000! JKUR with bunch of stuff.

Anyone else notice you can only select Tan Leather with the Punk'n and no cloth? I really would prefer black cloth. Hopefully it will allow that down the road.

Which ones are you specifically looking at?
AEV Savegre’s or the Rugged Ridge XHD’s. They are both hub-centric design; in my opinion are a much better design vs just being centered on the studs.
