Only other thing I can think of, is what I've seen some Jewish writers doing. Paranoid about taking the lord's name in vain, they'll type G-d instead of God, even when its in an absolutely respectful and not in vain in the slightest subject.

That very much varies, at least IME, but not writing out the name is followed by all I have known (but I am no expert, comparative religion courses were long ago, and these days I have lost touch with my closest Jewish friends). As a Christian, I do not actually worship on the Sabbath, but the day after (Sunday) to honor the day of resurrection (some denominations do worship on the Sabbath, natch). Leaving it there so I don't violate the religious interdiction and get banished to Nebraska.
Yeah, I see it as the Pharisees STILL making a ton of sub-rules to go along with the Commandments and Levitical law. Making something simple into something impossible to follow.
