When I took mine off I made sure to have the glass already open... I'm not sure how this is an issue.
Might try that next time. When the glass opened by itself, the balance was thrown off, since that pane weighs a fair amount. Neither my cuz nor myself are exactly candidates for Mr. Universe, so we were already straining a good bit when it popped open.

Now that I think of it, that would also allow you to keep the tailgate closed... :headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang:

Oh well, live and learn.

Not too bad...my 2008 M3 did that worse. The tailgate seemed to be more sensitive.

Also, don't put your keyfob in the washer, unless you like random alarms every 10 or so minutes...just sayin...
Yes, I found that the back handle really liked to set off the lights, more than the side door handles. So, bottom line is that this is "normal".

ah no worries. I had enough problem finding the balance and also my wife is significantly shorter than me, so theres another challenge in getting the hard top off.

Just another reason I decided to go with just soft top this time. When wife and I tried to take the 2011 top off, she couldn't even lift it and she is taller than me. So that was that. It never came off and never even did the freedom tops after that too. The 2015, 2017 and 2018 Unlimiteds never had any tops off. Sad

JLU here. Yeah, it takes a minute to figure out how to get a handle on it when you first try and pick it off. The other awkwardness is that the shell twists some so you are trying to "keep it straight" and you don't REALLY know what "straight" is as it moves a bit.

Not sure we did any damage to mine, it's in the basement with some blankets on sleeping. Will see when we wake it for winter, lol. I need to get that lift in by then!
The two of us managed to take of the JLU top and carry it into the garage ourselves the first time. Its a pain, and it took some figuring out to get it off (My strength is not superb...)
Worked much better when we created a simple rigging system on the ceiling of the garage. Only problem with that was that when we started to lift, it swung a bit on the straps and put some scratches on the door post. :( Gotta be more careful next time.

1) It is A LOT heavier than it has any right to be.
2) Very awkward, most of the weight is towards the back (this might be a bit different on a 4 door)
3) If that rear glass opens on you, you're screwed. Always keep the back angled up a little when moving. Tape it shut too with masking tape.
4) We set it down on the grass with no issue. The scratches came from (unavoidably) landing it on the sidewalk for a minute.
5) Take it slow, have a plan before moving.
6) If you do it in the heat, you're gonna need a shower afterwards.
Thank you

Here's a question for any of you folks that happen to have proximity entry. Does your Jeep keep flashing the lights when you spray the door handles with water? I understand they should flash when my hand is near the handle, but they kept coming on whenever I spayed her. I haven't seen any mention of that in the evil general threads. I might have to open a new thread unless someone has seen something I missed.
I do have proximity and again I am of no help :( I haven’t sprayed my handles

Yeah. The trouble with this is she insisted on Having the hard top. It was the requirement for me to be allowed to have a Wrangler.
