I have no illusions that she’ll be a mall crawler with the very rare off road use. I’m not worried about it being under water. I’m sure it’ll still work fine under water anyway as much as the next. I could use the better mpgs though.

Well, if you look at the photo I posted, that vehicle in the water is an 18-wheeler and the water is up to his mid-windshield. I suspect that he wasn't worried about his truck being underwater either... At least not until it started coming in the door... When It got to his lap, he was probably a bit more concerned.

Did you guys plan this? Because that's hilarious.
I'm not sure what you mean... That is an actual photo from one of the areas near downtown Houston after we had a pretty good "rain event". We had areas that had 60" of rain over just a couple of days. Not just 60" of *flooding*, 60" of actual rain that fell from the sky... My neighborhood stayed pretty dry with only water getting up the the top of the curb in places, but a couple of levees over, I encountered water that was nearly up to the door on my Ram 1500 QC 4x4 and I turned around instead of continuing on to see how deep it would get. I don't particularly like the smell of moldy carpet, so I avoid getting in water that deep unless I absolutely *have* to.

Do a Google search on Houston and Hurricane Harvey or Tropical Storm Allison and you'll see some of our more recent events. Flooding happens in certain places and if it is a major rain event, you should avoid those places. I sure as 'ell would not want to go in those places with an electric vehicle given the voltages that they are running in those battery packs.

I'm sure that they *could* waterproof those motor and battery packs well enough if they *wanted to* so that you could drive completely underwater since we have electrically powered underwater ROV and submersibles, but I just don't trust them to so that for a car.

Sounds like EV isn’t a good option for you.

I agree with your comment about not going too far (like the semi in your pic) - just don’t be a dummy and don’t drive into water of unknown depths. That’s kind of a basic rule of driving... right? Doesn’t matter whether it’s EV or not, lol.

I would love an EV Wrangler. Hopefully after my 2019 lease is up, the EV will be prime time and proven + affordable. I’d probably spring for model year 1, if it was coming out soon enough - but I can’t wait that long.

You’d think the upcoming hybrid would have its system waterproofed if it’s to maintain it’s 30” fording. Plus adding 37s adds another 2”. :)

By hag logic navy vet no car would survive. So what’s the difference if it’s a dead ev or a dead regular car

I'm aware. My folks' old house in Kingwood got flooded.

And not to mention that those electric golf carts out there are destroying the fossil fuel cars.

Hahahahaha if that’s the case thats even more ridiculous of an argument.
You want to play around with nearly 400V and water? Be my guest... Just be sure to have someone record it so that they can post it on YouTube to remind people of how bad of an idea it can be.

What we don't see in that photo though is probably a bunch of cars that are completely underwater. It's possible that the water started to rise which stopped the traffic. Traffic probably got so congested that they were stuck there and could not get out and then the rising waters eventually claimed them. So, it's possible that very few of them actually drove into water too deep, but if you get stuck there and the water is rising, you're screwed.

If I remember correctly that whole area floods easily. It has nothing to do with driving into deep water.
