Hey guys,

So our 2021 Wrangler went in for the hinge corrosion issues. First it came back with the hinges half painted, not sure why but anyway they took it back and painted the hinges and the doors.

Got it back, and there's multiple dirt nibs in the paint.. no problem, they can de-nib later!

But on the edge of one of the doors there's burn through either from polishing OR they just didn't spray that line so you are seeing the primer. It's a thin short line.

Any idea how we should proceed? Manager has been cooperative but I feel off about taking it back for a 3rd time...

The only thing you can do is to continue to force them to make it right. Document everything, times, dates, what was done (and not done) etc.

They probably sent it out to a body shop that does work cheaper then they charge, if they have a body shop at all.

I just had my 21 hood repainted due to corrosion and luckily the body shop did great work. (and I’m super picky..:) I’d take it back until you’re 100% happy. Good luck! It sucks to deal with this on a 2 year old vehicle!

I'm getting my entire Jeep repainted and all my hinges replaced in a week or two. I am nervous about the same thing but the body shop seems to be very high quality so it should be good. I would think they would have these corrosion issues resolved by now (mine is a 2018). Anyways, just be polite and go back as many times as it takes.

Hard to tell from the pic, might just be polishing compound. You should be able to tell with your finger if it's through the paint. I wouldn't hesitate to ask them to make it right, but I wonder how long you are without the Jeep in this process.

I've been dealing with the body shop itself. The dealer is from a big network, and they own multiple body shops. This is apparently the best of all of the ones they own.

How did you manage to get the entire Jeep repainted?

Hope it goes smooth for you but glad to hear it is getting looked after!

If it was polishing compound, it would wipe off, right?

To me with my finger it's smooth as glass so not a scratch it seems like it's a bad tape line, missed paint or possibly burn through from polishing but tough to tell. The grey mark looks like primer to me based on how it looks behind the hinges.

Originally they had it for a week when they gave it back to me with the hinges half painted. This last time they kept it while we were on vacation so not a big deal, this time? Not sure. I asked them and they wanted me to bring it by to see how it can be dealt with, but it's 8 hours of driving there and back... seems like a lot just to tell me how they'll fix it.

So it has to go back for a de-nib on the other panels, about 1-2 dozen dirt specks in the paint on all the panels they painted. They said they'll deal with it at the same time.

I e-mailed again asking for confirmation it'll be fixed, and if they can give me a rental at their preferred rate (but I'll pay the rental bill) I'm trying to be as cooperative as possible.

There are still Saturns on the road?

I have corrosion on almost every body panel and it occurred during the warranty period. So they are replacing every hinge and repainting it all. I just went through the underbody and sanded/painted all of that. My Jeep will look better than new at 5 years old (it came with rusty welds from the factory is why I say better than new).
