Thanks, although getting Mopar Leather seats after-the-fact is about 4 grand CAD...I skipped the X package because I don't want black leather in Arizona and nor the color matched roof and fenders. I also wanted to pick my own steel bumpers if I decide to add that additional weight in the future. I ended up paying more by adding most of the the other available groups so I could order the black 3 piece top and then get after market leather in a color and style I want.
You can get nice katzkin or comparible leather seats installed by an upholstery shop for about the same cost as the optioned mopar leather. At least that's what I found when doing a little research after finding out I couldn't option leather in a base rubicon. If that holds true, not a deal breaker for me since I'll still get what I want for similar cost in the end. Actually I need to look into Mitch@Ourisman's offer some more when I get closer to delivery. It sounded like the dealer can install too. If cost is similar to an upholstery shop, I may just go that route for convenience. Thanks, although getting Mopar Leather seats after-the-fact is about 4 grand CAD...
I'm not sure why/when they created these different packages with these limitations. - I get it...it makes life easier for Mopar/combinations...inventory...etc but not very customer friendly.
Or maybe I just settle for the cloth seats and get a "base" Rubicon![]()
So interesting that even the new order guide still shows you can option leather sets in a base rubicon. I might contact my dealer to see if it can be added now out of curiousity.Latest JL/JLU order guides (5/31/23) added to the first post.
They’re not doing one anymore cause the Willys is now a true Rubi-lite.Still no Willys Sport![]()
I'm still hopeful that the Willys Sport will return. I think they could strip away some luxury features and keep the rear locker for about $4k below the Willys price point. When they first introduced the Willys trim for JL, I think they waited a couple months later to introduce the Willys Sport. Maybe that pattern repeats, maybe not. For folks who are interested in offroad capability without other bells and whistles, there is a big price gap between the basic Sport and the Willys ($6750 wholesale). They’re not doing one anymore cause the Willys is now a true Rubi-lite.
If they did, it would likely have to come without the rear locker and/or no floating axles (unless those are now standard but I really don’t think they are).
This being said, I fully expect them to bring back something to fill that “gap” between Sport S and Sahara. Probably the Freedom (aka “Oscar Mike”) because they have that as a model right now (edited because I just looked and see that Freedom editions are available on the MY23 JLs).
Id like to see a return of the Islander or Big Mountain editions, being regionally available. Like how they do the Texas Trail editions and such for the JTs ?‍![]()
