See, they could have done a bowstring arch and done away with the piers altogether, especially if the span isn't long. However, I assume an extensive cost-benefit analysis was done that eliminated that as an option.

What is the bridge called? I'd like to read up on it.

Kiewit is HUGE. They did some work on my project in fact. Two of them, actually. Good contractor, they run a tight ship.

And the EOR is the State DOT. Hence the simpler design. Still, a healthy sized bridge (86" deep steel girders!), especially for a state job.

yes! huge controversy! Lots of political, Facebook, and local questions on all pieces of the project. Still have friends that refuse to cross the bridge. I see I have your interest, but I know little more actual details than than I have already shared.
