Just a PSA for those here that have or will have a stick shift. Pretty dang sure your jeep will also have hill start assist. Thou shall not roll back while on a hill when you get ready to start off again. Been there, done that. Our 2011 was stick and they stay put on a hill.

Afirm. Kinda nice - helped on the rocky trail climbs too.

Nope. Not on a lease and mining company holding mineral rights. Up here, those mineral rights are our gold. They used eminent domain to move other properties. But one doesn’t mess with the mines. Those mineral rights are way too valuable.

Looks like they used weathering steel.

Not a long span. And driving it you can’t see much. Tall, not exciting. But expensive. Filled in 100ish ft of mine pit just to install it. And... this is the water source for the city. (I take your lake water and raise you a mine pit). And the steel was 100% American. (When mining the ore to make it is the cause of creating the bridge, you know they made damn sure of that.)

Edit: and any idea why the locals are complaining?

See, they could have done a bowstring arch and done away with the piers altogether, especially if the span isn't long. However, I assume an extensive cost-benefit analysis was done that eliminated that as an option.

What is the bridge called? I'd like to read up on it.

No name that I am aware of yet. Here is the MNDOT link. http://www.dot.state.mn.us/d1/projects/hwy53relocation/gallery.html Kiewit was the lead contractor of that helps at all.
