Would have preferred a 2 dr. , investigated options before purchase. This ain’t the old days when I built Chevy powered CJ5. And that was expensive, the only stock (almost) part left was the body. can’t even install a different tube with an air cleaner on the end in Ca unless CARB approved.
Yeah, I hear and read that Cali is tight on vehicle alterations when it may affect emissions. Even bringing a vintage car to the state can be difficult, with ample hurdles (as in State Fees).

I’m in FL and existing state laws are hardly enforced (unless someone behaves themselves like a moron on public roads). Many in the police force are car guys around here. We have no annual emission testing.
Only the dummies deleting the diesels and posting bragging videos on YouTube received attention by the State Troopers down here.

Engine swaps with a clean execution are less of an issue. Re-sell value may be impacted and your insurance may not be happy with you.

Once a vehicle is 25 years old, it is EPA/DOT exempt. Federal laws no longer apply.

The 25 year rule lasted only until up to 75 models here , froze. I bought a rare 66 only L79 Nova SS New Mexico car ~50 years ago, had to install a “NOX” smog device to register. It has gotten continuously worse . Edit— somebody else knew what that Nova was— Stolen

Sorry to hear! Cars of that era were easy to break into and bypass the ignition switch. Today you can’t let a car of that vintage out of sight. They still disappear on a regular basis.

Highly unlikely a typical Nova would be at the top of the thieves list. Found with the L79, 4spd, positraction rear end, mag wheels and bucket seats stripped. Left rear quarter panel and rear mashed . Was Totaled……Mother F……..ers !

In my experience in the few months of ownership, I've noticed the following in my neck of the woods:

When I'm out in the sticks, almost every Jeep waves.

When I'm in the suburbs and city, almost none wave and only few wave back when I initiate.

So, I always wave while driving out in the sticks and usually only wave back when in the burbs and city.

I don't think there's a right or wrong way to do this. No one is going to remember or care about whether someone waved or not after about 10 minutes of driving past. Those who do, probably need to reconsider why exactly they bought a Jeep ?‍♂
In the Denver Metro area it's the same way. I get almost zero waves till I get away from the metro area.

JLU here. Are we supposed to wave to Gladiators??? I got a wave from a G-Wagon today! haha....
I've accidentally waved at a few, but I don't think they consider themselves Jeep owners. Just a truck that they can take the doors off of.

I have to admit I’m not really that fond of the Jeep wave, there’s just too much pressure. Am i dick if i don’t wave? Should I feel bad if we’re in a who will wave first show down and they wave so late I don’t have time to wave back? What if I wave and they don’t reciprocate? Do they think I’m stupid?

It’s so much pressure. Do I, dont I. FUCK they waved and I missed it.
Buy a grumper and people will stop waving at you

I just try to wave first regardless, and then mutter very profane and highly derogatory curse words if they don't wave back ✌
This pretty much sums me up. Sometimes I think I shouldn't wave if I'm in urban or suburban areas, because most of those people seem to be lost in their own world. The second you get out to rural areas you get a lot more people who wave, unless it's like teenagers. Anytime there's young ppl behind the wheel I pretty much never get a wave. Honestly at this point I think it's just true Jeepers who wave. Those people who just own a Jeep but don't live the Jeep life, they never wave. Sometimes I replace my Jeep Wave with my Dixie horn. Kind of just depends how I feel.

There's a fellow who lives ~1 mile from here who has a built JKU with an angry bird grille. His modification choices aren't professional-grade, like our own @Tredsdert ;), but he's earned an Honorable Mention in that regard.

Anyway, despite the grumpy grille, this guy is local enough for me to have recurringly observed consistent smiles and waves when we pass each other. And so I'm careful to return both.

We get back what we give. ?

One of my better friends put an angry grille on his Jeep. Not only do I still wave, we hang out. We don’t talk about the grille though ?

I always wave, I don't get upset or think about it when another Jeeper doesn't wave back, it's all good. I would say 80% of the time I get a wave back but it's also about picking the right Jeep. Example... an older lady driving a stock Wrangler Sport with a death grip on her steering wheel, I am probably not going to get a wave back however every time I have waved to a Jeep with some modifications, always have gotten a wave back. It is what it is but at the end of the day I enjoy the Jeep "culture" and waves.

Side note, saw this a few days ago while going to a service call for work, I think it's pretty funny.
