Hello everyone has anyone owned /used the Banks Derringer tuner ? I do t want to flash the ecu I’m aware of all that. I would want a bit more pickup for daily driving. I’ve read about the aFE tuner. And to me it sounds like just a boost increase which I can do with the wastegates adjustment thanks in advance

The variable geometry turbo doesn't need or use a wastegate. The boost is controlled entirely by the computer.

The derringer tuner is a good addition but the pedal monster is better at giving you better pedal feel. Together, they do make the Jeep much more fun to drive.

For that kind of money, you are close to the price for a full tune from Green Diesel Engineering. I did it a month ago. Very happy and the wife is considering adding it to hers.

I have ordered a spare PCM but I am pretty confident that I won't have any issues. If anything it should be better with the reduced EGR.

Yeah, the only concern is bad fuel and the CPR4. That to me is really the only risk with these, although the risk is still relatively low.

I'm going Banks personally.

I agree about the fuel. I find it interesting that the Ram manual recommends fuel filter changes every 10k while our manual says 20k. All my techs here at the dealership say that 10k is the number.

Banks raises the boost and CP4 fuel pressure

Correct. It's not fuel pressure that's an issue necessarily. It's more so it suffering a major failure...albeit the internet has made that overblown.

5th diesel I've owned with the CP4 and no issues yet, but they can be a problem with poor fuel. I'm not that concerned with it, obviously, since I keep buying them. :)

Sorry for the questions. Who makes CP4 ?
This is my first diesel ever. And on a side note ? I’ve been building race motors since the early 90’s and all my cars have been turbocharged or supercharged. But never a diesel. I love the idea and power of diesels and appreciate them.

Bosch makes it.

Honestly, don't worry about it. 99.9% it will never be a problem. I'm sure the actual failure rate is VERY low since it's in multiple vehicles. It gets a bad reputation for having a few problems, but some of that has been corrected from what I understand.

The best insurance/piece of mind is to always try and use quality fuel from a station that sells a lot of diesel so it's relatively 'fresh'.

And make sure you change the fuel filter regularly.

I’ve heard this from multiple people but how am I supposed to know if the gas station sells a lot of diesel? Do you go in and ask them?

Usually you can see a steady amount of diesel trucks going through a station, that usually makes sure there's not fuel just sitting in tanks too long.
