The NY Times had a great article about the labor issues and it's coming down to a race between keeping your business running versus people running out of the savings they amassed from the stimulus checks and increased unemployment wages.
Link to that article? I’d love to read it.

sadly, this may be what teaches you you have to check everything yourself; we can't trust the "professionals", and it's less inconvenient for everyone if you check things up front.

tire size/model/load range, lug nut torque, air pressure... i wait until i get around the corner before i check the lug nut torque and tire pressure so as not to insult them *too* much (and they're almost *always* wrong), but i'll check tires before they're installed (have found the wrong tires before they put them on) and after installation before i leave the shop.

I’m thinking the mix up happened at the warehouse. When I got things set up they didn’t have any in town and ordered them from a warehouse in Texas. Now they happened to have 5 in the Omaha warehouse. Mistakes happen and even more happen when your stressed and trying to work to fast. All in all not really a big deal but I’m still bummed.

The real problem was when I got the Jeep back I checked everything and the tires on the Jeep were 285/70 r17!!!!
"Them tires is the same, and it don't matter none. 285/70, 285/75, 295/65, 275/85, they is all identical for all intensive purposes and our shop ain't responsible if you is not happy."

I used to work in a tire shop, and the level of ignorance there, and the total lack of receptiveness to enlightenment there were incredibly frustrating. Those guys didn't give a flying rat's ass about learning anything. Their grand pappy told them that tars is tars is tars, and that's all they cared about. Putting a tar on a car.

Sigh.

I feel your pain, brother.

You are having problems caused by your choice to do some upgrades means that you are definitely cursed.

I've learned over the years that not ever mod will go as planned and to take in stride or just keep the vehicle stock as that usually has less complications/headaches.

Hahahaha!!!! This is 100% true! I didn’t even bother listening to the game on the way home after checking the score. It’s the same game every week.
Frosty has a limited shelf life.

It pleases me that someone caught the little jab I made there. There was also a guy there who was totally steadfast and committed in his belief that "sale" was a verb. "We sale tars."

Now that I no longer work in a tire shop, I find it frustrating that I have to turn to guys like those for tire work. I searched the world over for tires with white letters for my old Ford, and by the time I realized the moron didn't know how to do white letters on a dually, it was too late. I had to get to work, and didn't have time to get Dumbass to flip the tires around.

I daydream of having the money to set up my own shop with a lift, a tire machine, and a computer balancer. Probably not going to happen as long as I'm a Jeep owner though.

This. So. Much. This. I swapped out my plastic front bumper to go with a steel one, add a winch plate, and a winch. Watched/read countless tutorials. Felt totally prepared for what I expected to take about 3hrs. 12 hrs over two days later it was finally set up....

Thanks @Discount Tire for blaming me for your mistake on this. Trying to let you fix this today and put the tire size I ordered over the phone with you on today and you are trying to hassle my wife about it. I know mistakes happen but learn some customer service and take care of the customer when you mess up!! I wasn’t going to call you out but geez!!

When I called you said you don’t have 285/75 r17 in Omaha but could order them from a warehouse in Texas and they would be delivered in about a week. At my appointment you put (4) 285/70 r17 tires on and had (1) that was for an 18” rim. Totally wrong. When I brought it up you told me that you actually had (5) 285/75 r17 in the Omaha warehouse. That’s weird! It’s almost like those are the ones I ordered!

So basically I learned to never buy from Discount Tire.

A wise man once told me that all feedback is a gift, even when it stings. If you don't tell them about service screwups, they can't fix them and are doomed to repeat them. They need to hear about them when they occur.

My own personal experience with Discount Tire across multiple stores in multiple states has been that they've bent over backward to meet my needs, even when they had no responsibility to do so. One in Amarillo actually gave my wife a brand new tire so she could get to Colorado (it was correct size and brand but not a model match) and get the correct replacement when she hit road debris and destroyed a new tire on a thousand-mile trip.
