I opted to learn something about my Jeep and do some basic level troubleshooting before taking it to the shop and loosing my mode of transportation for at least a day.
If the dealer finds out that you have done this, he may not honor the warranty. Plenty of time to trouble shoot issues when the warranty expires.

This is true for any vehicle or piece of equipment.

What did he do that the dealer would even be able to tell was done?

On my Ram, I replaced an ignition coil with one from Autozone and told them I wanted them to replace it with a Mopar one the next time I got an oil change, they had no problems doing it

I did not say that the dealer would be able to tell that something was done.

I said " If the dealer finds out that you have done this, he may not honor the warranty."

These are completely different statements.
