What did you do TO your Jeep JL today?

Exactly what I was thinking... I had Quadratech on my ‘14 and they peeled off but in the meantime I think I’ll use the XPEL as described above

I was thinking the same, but I almost think it would be easier to just wait, see how they do. If they start to scratch up I’ll tape off the areas I want lined, get a small roller and apply several coats of rhino lining.
I actually may do this before I put my rock sliders on. I’ll go from door sills all the way down and coat the rocker panels. That will prevent rust issues etc. and protect them.

On my JK’s didn’t take long to start showing signs of wear especially where the shoe/boot hits every time climbing in.... we hit the beach quite a bit so sand scratching the sill is quick.... like you said though, if you’re going to Rhino Line probably best to cover as much as possible... more stuff to think about...looks like mine will be ready to pick up late next Friday...

I too am around tons of sand and shell , the wrangler sill guards are really pointless as you mentioned the specific wear areas

dont want to take away from the look either .....what is your opinion on a couple layers of 3M film ....to thin ? wear out to quickly ??

I'm Florida beach side lots and this is what I plan on doing with my JL. Will install the OEM plastic sill guards. After this, I will install 3m film around the sill guards in a way that gives the most protection to the areas that would be prone to scratch/marr. I will replace as needed/dependent on wear, the 3M film. No way would I rhino my sills.

I haven’t tried the XPEL yet so thats an option and it comes in different mils which I’ll have to research but I like the reviews so far....The other option I am seriously considering is a color match Rhino Line...downside could be cost but it’s very durable and would give that texture that keeps me from slipping.....

You bring up a good point and it’s honestly an important decision which is leaning me more towards a Rhino Line or similar product...one thing I like about this forum is the way we’re able to help each other make educated decisions!!

I'm not sure how well the sill guards would adhere to the 3M film. Can tell you from experience that the sand that gets in and around the sill guards flushes easily with water. I place the 3M around the sill guards so the 3M is easy to change if need be. I found with my JK the 3M held up very well to sand and foot scuffs, etc..

Since I’m considering Rhino, what’s your thinking as to why not? I would consider color match and think the texture would prevent slipping when I climb in but I do value people’s opinions and you may forsee an issue that I don’t??
Actually edit my response a little... these sill guard ideas all have some pros/cons.... I do know that the Quadratech sill guard alone didn’t hold up on my ‘14...can always use the OB compressor to blow the sand off.....options options options... gotta love it.

I've seen guys that have done rhino on the sills of their JK's and have not seen one that I myself would accept visually/looks wise. The 3M is pretty much invisible and is replaceable. BEFORE you fool with the rhino on the sills DO look at a vehicle with the rhino. To each his own though..

That was my first thought but I think the 3M wont last as long as the sill guard so when replacing 3M it would make it easier ...maybe ?

I think In the long run it will be less fussing and more durable. You will thank yourself for only prepping once and getting it done.
I guess it’s easier for me. I have black.

No, thats why we have these discussions and value the opinions...I will definitely look at some before making a decision. It does seem like a trivial item but it absolutely wears and wears quick. Doing some research now..good day for it, we went from 70 degrees last weekend to snow this morning...gotta love Oregon
