As many of you know, the Jeep engineers added a massive windshield washer reservoir that gets in the way of aftermarket fender liners. Here’s what I did to solve this problem....

I ordered a 2 quart reservoir from US Plastics, swapped out the pump (no modification necessary here), and drilled equal size holes for the sensor and inlet. I used a step bit to match up the hole sizes.

The sensors hole is roughly 1 1/8” in diameter and the inlet was slightly larger than 1 3/8. I opted to make the inlet hole so I could add fluid and keep it like the factory.

I trimmed the bolt ends coming through the firewall that got in the way of the reservoir (see pic where The blue plier ends are pointing). I used one of these bolts as a mounting point (secure with a nut) and used self tapping screws on the drivers side... be sure you don’t go crazy long with those in case there are wires behind the firewall.

This was an easy mod for around 40 bucks. The shipping cost ($20) was as much as the reservoir. No leaks, sensor is happy (no warning) and sprays perfectly. Sorry if pics are out of order... you get the idea.

That is a great modification. That was location where I was planning to install air compressor until I lifted hood of my diesel. I wish there was a location to completely relocate your smaller tank.

Nice work there, thanks for sharing, I have a set of inner fender liners and been waiting to have some time to figure out a way to get them on the wrangler, this is the cleanest and nicest I have found in the research of this problem.

Is the large tank and placement of it only on the diesels ? or are these on all JL's?, I wanted to research where they are mounted on the non-diesel JL's or maybe is a smaller tank that does not interfere with aftermarket inner liners, maybe you guys looked those things up

The location of this reservoir is specific to the diesel JLU. It directly conflicts with the placement of all current available inner fender liners. a couple of people have mentioned that they got their inner liners to work without changing anything but had to push and shove things into place to make it work. It's my understanding that non-diesel JLUs have their reservoir on the passenger side near where the battery is currently stored on the diesels. But due to the location of I believe the air box placement and turbo a lot of things got moved to opposite sides of the truck or just rearranged in general. So if I were to guess I believe the non-diesel reservoir and diesel reservoirs are not the same. And not interchangeable. Similar to the changes that were made to the air intake and air box.

If you bought inner fender liners just try and see if yours work if they don't it's your choice to either return what you have and try another brand or attempt to modify like others have tried. I installed the rough country brand liners and could not get mine to work. One other person was able to get this brand installed without changing anything but I was not successful. I ended up unmounting the reservoir cutting off the mounts and brackets to make the tank smaller and then zip tied it in a place out of the way about 4 inches. It's not a pretty modification but my tank still works and I can still refill it and I didn't have to disconnect any tubes or sensors.if I could do it again I would have tried a different brand inner liner but my solution is working so far and is not terrible so I will stick with it.

I appreaciate the feedback, I did see the other post about ordering a different tank from US Plastics, I am currently waiting for that in the mail, wasn't happy about Poison Spyder selling me something without having any knowledge about it not being able to fit, I called them and they have never heard of it, the guy wanted me to send him pictures but then took my number down and was suppose to have someone else call me and that never happen. Really not feeling the love there, darn things cost over 8 or 900 bucks, you would think they are doing some research before telling customers it would fit.
Worse part is that the Wrangler is now at the dealer with a check engine problem, I also order brackets and lights from Rigid, the damn brackets were bent so I am waiting on new ones, ordered Method Wheels from 4WP and they send the wrong lug nut pattern, ordered American Adventure daylight/turn signal and they arent working properly (waiting on replacement), ordered the front bumper and they forgot to ship the winch tray (comes with it), but I they fed ex it with in 2 days, order Oracle lights from 4WP and they delivered the wrong model, shipped those back and it has now been 45 days and I am still waiting for the lights. I think this wrangler is CURSED, nothing has gone smooth.

Don’t blame the wrangler. I hear your frustration on the reservoir as we are all in the same boat. There are other issues as well that I’ve come across that differ from other JLs... like the rear trac bar hitting the muffler, def bracket in the way for rear bumper (easy fix of if you sandwich bumper), and front control arm bolt hitting exhaust pipe when trying to remove... to name a few.

First, to the OP - this is a great mod and a very helpful write-up. I suspect I'll be going down this road soon as well. Thanks for posting!

There's another thread in the EcoDiesel forums about the differences between the diesel and its gas siblings. There are certainly plenty. More than I think anyone anticipated.

I've been experiencing this myself with my on-board air setup. Most notably when I realized the gas tank and exhaust are flipped! All of my planned mounting locations and air line routes were out the window.

While in the middle of trying to piece together what should have been an easy upgrade, something occurred to me... Diesel owners really should think of their JLs the same way the 2018 JL owners thought of theirs: It's new, and the aftermarket will need some time to catch up. Sure, there are plenty of things out there that work the same regardless of powertrain. But there are enough instances of non-compatibility on these forums to make me want to pause for a while and wait for companies to verify fitment on the diesels.

Same will be true for the 4xE, most certainly.

@Csarcon interesting you are having problems with your American Adventure Labs lights. I am also having a problem with mine. I have the RGB lights and the LED's are going out on one side. The colors are not displaying correctly (they are composite colors). I sent them an email on Monday with photos and video of the problem and they haven't responded. It seems they are a small shop so i get it. Plus all the stuff thats going on, lockdown. Hope we can both get our stuff fixed.

Don't think your rig is cursed. It's one of the joys of owning a first run.

I do have to say they take a while to respond, the person in charge of responding only comes in every other day I believe, but to their credit they have been very good in following up with me and trying to help me fix the problem, I think they are a small business so I have to understand as well, hopefully one day this rig is complete and running smooth, that day is not in sight but one can only hope LOL

Reviving an old thread here, Sorry. I ended up going to American Adventure Labs' shop on the way through Utah when out there for a trip. They were very accommodating and the owner helped me troubleshoot my broken driver side light. Once we figured out that the light was in fact faulty (i also had my Tazer settings incorrect) he gave me a new light and it was a relatively easy install. Turns out the LED's were shorting out and/or broken.

HOWEVER, about a month after fixing the driver side, the passenger side started doing the same thing. It's been broken now for about four months and I haven't made any attempts to contact AAL. These damned lights, including the flood lights were over 400 bucks and they both broke within the first five months of use. Pretty shitty product man. Which is a shame, because they looked fan-flipping-tastic when they were working.

Eventually i'll get around to calling them again and asking for a replacement ... again. Annoying.

I have been away from the forum for a while, ownership of this diesel Jeep has been close to a nightmare, check it out what I have ordered and ran into problems:

Oculus Headlights : They shipped out the wrong model, but then corrected it.
Poison Spyder innner fenders: Don't fit on driver side (everyone ran into this problem)
Method Wheels: They shipped with the wrong bolt pattern (they corrected their mistake)
Ridgid Cowl Bracket: Bracket was bend out of specs (they fixed it on their 3 attempt)
Toyo RT 35" tires : took 2 months to receive them
The the Amercan Adventure turn signal lights, they send me a new wiring harness, but it did not solve the problem, finally they send the replacement altogether, but by the time all these replaments arrived I ran into the biggest headache so far:

EGR failure on 5-22-20, took 6 weeks to get the part, then the dealer "found" a 5 inch hose with a slight crack, they wont replace with until they received an OEM, once they got it another 7 weeks later they now realized they need the engine cover replaced (not sure why) and some kind of filter housing (also not sure why), so we are now set to get those parts in from Chrysler in the middle of October. Chrysler is claiming I will be reimbursed fro all payments made while the Wrangler was in the shop, once the vehicle is fix according to them they will pay me back, I am not sure if I should trust them or if I should just Lemon Law the Wrangler, but this 2020 Wrangler has been putting me throught the ringer.

Unfortunately your problems with the aftermarket parts are also where i'm standing. But, fortunately in my case it's not problems with the Jeep. I'm pretty blown away at the quality of these small-shop part makers. Rough Country was in particular very bad. (one could argue they are a budget part maker though). Between crazy long lead times (Gobi Rack's lead is 18 weeks right now) and parts that do not fit i'm at a loss for words.

As for the case with your Jeep, i would try to get a concrete answer as to what happened with the filter housing and the engine cover. with the amount of time you've been without the Jeep i would contact a Lemon Law Lawyer and simply ask him what they think. I've never done it but myself but a lawyer won't take your case if he doesnt think he would win so it won't hurt to just talk to one.

My brother in-law is in La Quinta and he's Lemon Lawed two trucks. He purchases a new truck about every two years for a small fleet of trucks for his business. If you want his info let me know.

It wouldn't hurt to know where I stand, I am tempted to head to the dealer and take my warn winch and Genright front bumper off, the Wrangler may not come back to me, shoot me his number of he doesnt mind me picking his brain on the subject. Or you can give him mine 951-229-8057
