Finally getting around to starting my build thread after owning this Jeep for 6 months. This is my second JL, I had leased JL previously but we went down to a single car house hold for a bit wile I was working from home. About a year ago I started looking for another JL but knew I wanted one that I could build to the dream jeep I’ve wanted.

6 months ago I found a 2019 JL in Sting Gray with a manual transmission with just under 100k. The price was too good not check. I went and everything seemed to check out. The car fax showed all scheduled and regular maintenance. I was able to have the dealer throw in an extended warranty and I was out the door.

I started planning my build almost immediately. I had two goals with the build. The first was to keep the appearance close to a stock+ build as I do sometimes need to drive to work functions when my wife’s car is being used. The second and (more fun part) was I decided I wanted to find as many parts as possible used or at a heavy discount. While it does require patience I have found some awesome deals and have saved a ton. I decided to list the cost for these to show there are good deals out there as well as fair sellers who are not always looking to make back 90% on a used part.

The nick name is a play off my old black rhino lined lifted XJ I had in college. My friends called it the Blackhawk, and in keeping with the budget build the name just feels right.

Now to the build:

Year: 2019
Model: Sahara
Color: Sting Grey
Lift: Rock Krawler 2.5” Adventure Mid Arm (New)
Shocks: Falcon 1.1 (New)
Wheels: AEV Savgre v1 ($300 for all 5)
Tires: 35x12.5 Micky MTs (Included with wheels)
Headlights: Oracle Bi-LED - JL Forum Buy ($300)
Taillights: Oracle Flushmount ($80)
Foglights: Oracle 60w - Not installed ($25)
Bumper: Factory Steel - Not installed ($325)
Sliders: Rampage - Pulled from my last JL but still got open box on Amazon ($79)
Misc Ext: RC Tire Relocation Kit
Seat Covers: Bartact ($425)

Post to follow with some more and details.

I had actually ordered the lift a few weeks ago. However before I could install the engine began acting up. I scanned and saw the dreaded cam and misfire codes. Took it in and turns out both needed to be replaced. Luckily it was covered under the extended warranty I pushed for. It room almost 4 weeks to get the cams but I called Jeep Cares direct and they seemed to expedite based on what the dealer told me.

This past Sunday with my wife ready to give birth to our second child I thought it would be a good idea to install the lift and some of the other parts.

Before:

Installed the RC tire relocation kit first along with a new brake light.

Lining up the track bar took the longest but my brother and I were able to make it work and get everything buttoned up in under 7 hours. Now she needs a wash and alignment.

I didn't think they made the Sahara in manual. Guess I learned something today, on a Wednesday. Who would have thunk it.

Threw the Rubi bumper on the other day. Got the full thing off Facebook marketplace for $325. However now that it’s mounted I noticed the previous owner clearly hit something. Oh well… Have the fog light brackets coming tomorrow and will throw in the Oracle fogs after. Also have some cheap LED turn signals on order while I hunt for some OEM Leds

Sad someone wouldn't be honest in a post to sell something. You may have bought the bumper. I know buyer beware. It is just sad how society has gotten so sketch.

Yeah if I had paid more I would be more upset. When I picked it up it was night time and the bumper was dirty so couldn’t really see anything. I’m probably the only one who would notice.

Threw the Oracle fogs in today. I’m thinking of tinting them yellow. Would have been easier to do if I had the brackets where the bumper was off.

Still looking for OEM or decent aftermarket LED turn signals if anyone is selling!

Consider the Rubicon Hightop fender flares with LED's. Might find a used set in either black or painted / paintable. I did and it makes a huge difference in clearance.
