If only there was some other step to prevent stuff like this...
Like a unique piece of metal for each vehicle, that you plug into a port and turn, to activate/release the engine. That way, without the physical piece of metal inserted your couldn’t drive off with the car. It would work almost like 2- factor authentication. There would be an electronic security component, and a physical one also. You could even attach it or integrate it into the FOB somehow.

Oh well…. Maybe someday, some Millennial or Gen Z genius will figure it out and make billions with this innovation.

Push button start alone was a dumb idea.

Im big on the break it in like you are going to drive it. Babying an engine and then beating on it after isnt any better than just beating on it from the start.

Also helps if you don't want to have it valeted. Sometimes you can convince them to let you park it yourself once they see the stick shift.
Valet parking is always interesting. Once we stayed at a nice hotel in Austin after going to Marble Falls. Showing up in 2 naked Jeeps, covered in dirt and mud. Then they realize mine is stick, they convince this kid who looked like he was 12 he could easily drive it because Jeep manuals are the easiest. I watched him stall it at least five times from the lobby as we were checking in 😆. I thought they were going to give up and just leave it on the street, but somehow they made it to the parking garage.

My Jeep is extra challenging for other people because I don't have a key fob. The first time I took it to America's Tire for a rotation the guy got into the Jeep, couldn't figure out how to turn it on then just looked at me confused. Ever since then when they ask for the keys I just tell them I'll drive it into the bay myself.
