I was correct in my statement then. As long as you meet what Chris Hall stated with tax liability, you would get $8500 back if you were getting $1,000 back. If you were paying $1,000, you would get $6,500 back as a refund.

Yep! My confusion stemmed from tax liability being perceived as owning money aka owing taxes at end of year. Now understand you can have a tax liability and still receive a refund, it's actually common. Now I'm looking over my tax return from last year wondering why my liability is so damn high! Maybe I can buy 2 and qualify for $15,000! kidding

Right. But you have to owe hat least that much. If you only pay $5000 in federal taxes in a given year, you would only get $5000 back. If you pay $10,000 in federal, you'd get $7500 back.
Ok, so I pay about $12k in taxes each year. So, when I file my taxes for 2021 in a year, I’ll get back the $7500 on my return?

Wow, I had no idea! So the 53K 4xe Rubi goes down to 45.5 (7,500 fed discount), and then down to 44.5 (1,000 NY discount)? Any idea how the rebate payout works? Off at time of purchase, or rebate check in the form of tax return?
The NYS credit is actually a point-of-sale rebate which is applied at time of purchase. You must purchase at a participating NYS dealership to qualify. @17kw, the amount should be $1100 UNLESS your build puts you over $60k MSRP, then the rebate is limited to $500.
The federal tax credit is applicable in the tax year you buy the vehicle, and is deducted from your total tax liability.
Neither of these is a discount.

Maybe. If your total tax liability is $12k for the year, and you paid exactly $12k in withholding, meaning you were entitled to $0 refund and owed $0 in taxes, then, yes, you would now get a refund of $7500.

So long as your annual tax liability is over $7500, then you will be entitled to the entire credit. Whether you overpaid or underpaid your federal taxes for the year will determine the actual amount of a potential rebate.

Thanks a little confusing, looking at my 1040 from last year. For example hypothetically line 12b / total federal tax is $14,000. Federal withheld $21,500. Claim 0 dependents. This could mean I'd qualify for the full amount.
Yes

Ah ok got it. Watched a youtube video which basically said the same. Depends on total tax liability. Video mentioned a few others lines to look at, and 24 looks different on mine. All lines that show "total tax liability" are far greater than 7500 on my return though, so looks like I'd get the full amount.
sorry was moving too fast - I meant line 16 on the 2019 return (was looking at a 2020 return at the time). Fixed my original post.

Interesting to see what features aren’t included on the rubicon 4xe. I.E. color fender flares, colored hard top, leather seats, steel bumper, etc. still a great value with the tax credit. Very slick on Jeep’s end to compete with the upcoming bronco.

I know right - I did a double take on that when looking at the order guide. I admit I was happy tosee it vs what they did with the 392 loaded up package. Also the ones they did add standard to the hybrid Rubi I would have got anyway.

curious - maybe for those who have seen the jeep order guides over time - is this Launch edition with the “x” designation something that would typically go away over time, and these models would default back to optioning as you please. To be honest more curious on the 392 than the hybrid?

No doubt, I’d love the 392, but can’t stomach that gas mileage as my DD. Reason for wanting the 4xe. Be interesting to see how the options play out for the interim and long term for sure.
