One of the first mods I did to my Jeep, after it was built and delivered to the dealer, was to install the original Wolfbox G900. I knew I would want something as I was both, putting a 37" spare on the back and I tend to fill the back to the rafters when out camping (or overlanding or whatever you want to call it). I loved it. Night vision was only OK but really good enough for what I wanted. I could see the lights behind me so it did its job.
Well, then the G900 Pro was announced and I was one of the first people to plop my money down for this. This was a vast improvement. Not only were the cameras better, it was clear the screen was significantly better.
Then they came out with the G900 TriPro. So, this looked like it would solve one of the issues I had. I lost the ability to look behind me using the mirror. I couldn't make sure the dog was ok or that I had not forgot my backback or something like. It wasn't a deal breaker but something I noticed. When this was announced I really wanted to see how it would help with that.
Turns out, they also put in a better rear camera and it absolutely shows. The vision at night has ALSO improved by quite a bit. It is super noticeable. This was a fantastic upgrade. I was a bit nervous at first. When I went from the G900 to the G900Pro I was able to just swap the mirror and rear camera out without re-running all the wiring. Unfortunately, not as true with the G900 TriPro. Turns out, I needed to rip everything out, including the hardwire kit and do it again. I was not looking forward to this as pulling interior trim and such is one of my least favorite things to do. Fortunately, it was well worth it. I am super happy with this camera and highly recommend it.
Inside camera. So, the big change advertised for this was the third camera. This could be used foreither a front cam or a cab cam. I chose the cab cam as I have a factory front cam and a cab cam is something I had wanted. I know one of the lower end models of the Wolfbox had one but I really liked the G900 series so I stuck with it. Having this new cab cam is quite nice. Like I mentioned above, I can switch over and check on my dog, make sure I remembered my backpack, etc. This is a 1080p camera so not stellar resolution but it's not like I am recording with it. It also appears to have a IR light that it shoots at night which is super handy. I am still trying to figure out placement of that camera. Where I have it now is OK but not great but I can see the back seat and that is what matters.
There are a few other features this has that I don't use a lot. They would be the voice command and the wifi. The voice command works suprinsgly well. I was playing with it the other day say "take a picture" and *boom* it took one. I was kind of impressed by that. Of course, if somebody on a podcast talks about taking a picture it will do it then as well. Not the biggest deal, but it made me chuckle. I don't really use mine as a dashcam so I haven't had a real need to pull files off the mirror. I did set up the app and pull some images down so I could see how it went and, for the most part, it was pretty straightforward and usable. In fact, one of the pics I am posting below cam straight from the mirror. I was having issues with my wireless carplay taking over my wifi so I need to figure out how to prevent that.
Overall, I absolutely love this thing. For me, the improved rear visibility, especially at night and the new cabin camera were well worth it.
A couple nits that people talk about. The size. It is a big 12" mirror. So you can't really pull your visor down when it is installed. For me, not really an issue. I am more than capable of moving the mirror and pulling my visor down and I like the large size. The other thing for us JL owners with the saftey group. The ACC hump blocks a bunch of the camera. This doesn't bother me so much as I never really thought of having a dash cam before (only got it for the rear cam) but in reality you can see enough of the road that it would still work in reporting accidents, etc. It would be nice to see thembe able to pull that cameraout a bit to help with that issue in the future.
Oh, I should mention, how I mounted the camera. I actually put this at the top, above the back window pointing out. I have the Sky One Touch top so I don't have to worry about taking the top off. Although, the camera is socketed in so would be really easy to disconnect if you wanted to take the top off.I was worried the window tint would cause too much of an issue, but it really doesn't.
The mirror is currently attached to the factory mirror using the rubber straps. This is fine but kinda bulky and silly looking. I am thinking I am ready to just pull the old mirror and mount the wolfbox straight. If anybody has any suggestions on howto do this I would love that.
Anywayy, loving all my wolfbox stuff, especially this mirror.
