Would appreciate some insight from the wiring gurus in the group.....

I'm attempting to incorporate an a/b or power source switch for one of my lighting accessories. The goal would be to switch between two power sources.... A: ignition B: constant, thus allowing me to either turn on the lights with the engine running or not without keeping the ignition in run mode.

I was looking at a standard three position rocker switch but they appear to only be one source in, two leads out, whereas I'm looking for two sources in, one lead out.

Thanks for the help!!

Wire that switch backwards from what you are thinking. Inputs as the two outputs. Output as the input. Relay between the switch and the light.

I have my light bar wired up sort of like that, with a double throw center off switch, with up for ignition and down for on with the high beams. The switch powers a relay that powers the light. I used a 2 wire cable through the firewall, one to send the output to the relay, and one that is tapped into the high beam positive. I got the ignition hot from the accessory switch harness that is under the passenger side dash.

I live in a rural area, with the nearest street light 5 miles away, so it is nice to be able to use the light bar but be able to turn if off very quickly.

I also wired the rear bumper LED lights similarly, with up for battery and down for on with the reverse lights.

If you're looking for a cleaner solution without having to run switches into the cab or wire up a bunch of relays, check out the TRIGGER 4 PLUS Wireless Accessory Control System.

🔹 It gives you 4 accessory channels, all controlled wirelessly via Bluetooth or the RF switch pad.
🔹 No drilling into your dash and no mess of wires.
🔹 Super easy install with plug-and-play wiring, plus it’s magnetic mount and compact.

It could definitely simplify your setup depending on what accessories you're trying to control. We’ve seen a lot of people switch over to this kind of system for a much cleaner install. We made the same switch on all of our vehicles.

Here’s a link if you want to check it out: Trigger 4 PLUS System
