I haven't added a mod to the JLUR in a month now, the last thing was the Teraflex adjustable steering stabilizer, which was a wonderful addition to the rig. Now I have the itch to add two KC HiLites 6" LED driving lights, but I'm hung on on what brackets to use.

The KC brackets appear to mount on the top of the hood and use the hinge pin to mount. But the Mopar brackets appear to mount using the available bolts in front of the A-Pillar / fender and I'm wondering the pros and cons of the different mounting methods and locations.

There is a significant cost difference for the brackets. Is one method more stable? Does one of them allow the lights to not interfere with the view out the windshield?

Thoughts and opinions are welcome.

Hey, Bob. It's a matter of preference. Mounting on the pillar would obviously move the lights slightly outwards, but the pair I've mounted on the cowl doesn't interfere with my sight.

I believe the Mopar mount you're referring to is p/n #82215427, and the KC mount is p/n #7318... the Mopar mounts are about 2x the price of the KC's, but Mopar accessories tend to be grossly overpriced, so I don't think that's an indicator of quality in this case. The Go Rhino mounts I have below were $90 and are solid.

Regarding mounting location, I don't think one is more stable than the other. Mounting above the hood may introduce concerns about glare bouncing off the hood, but the light pattern is also a factor. I'm sure you know neither will allow for lowering the windshield... currently, very few options will let you. I keep a pair mounted on the fender so when I want to lower the windshield, I'll still have lights.

And no modifications in a month? Shame on you...;)
