This is winter in our neck of the woods.

Haven't seen the road surface since November, which is a good thing. Saw a snowbow this morning while addressing snow chores at the mailbox. Sun had just come over the horizon and it was misting snow at zero degrees F. About 20° of color on each side of the sun.

Do you respect your rural mail carrier? Most do around here but then there are a few arshats that are just too lazy to care about anything.

We have a similar situation here in Northeastern Vermont. I moved up here in 2019 and saw the same thing. But since then, we've had little snow and it got up to 50 for a few winter days in 2023.

Now this is what I moved here for!

I'm within city limits, and I redid my front deck and steps the first year I was here. My mail carrier asked me to move the mailbox to the side of the driveway, which I have plowed every time the snow gets more than 3" deep. It was originally on the step railing. Now I don't have to clear my steps of snow, and he doesn't have to climb stairs.

Many years ago, when my father was still alive, he had problems with the kids playing batter up with his mailbox, driving by in a pickup with someone in the bed armed with a baseball bat.
I built him a new mailbox out of 1/8" and 1/4" plate steel welded to a heavy pipe.
It was only a week later after installing the new mailbox that he called, saying he found a broken baseball bat by his mailbox. That had to hurt whoever the culprit was.

Out in our area back in the 90s when people were doing that a lot of victims decided to start using stone/brick/big fabricated metal mail boxes and the problem pretty much took care of itself after a while. That's also why those big ugly plastic boxes got so popular too, they are cheaper than the other solutions but super ugly.
