I thought getting wheels right on the JK was hard. Have read through all the official, complete, this is the measurements of the stock JLU Rubicon wheels and BS but have still seen different answers.

1. Is the stock rubicon wheel 7.5" or 8.5" wide?

2. Does it even matter as long as offset is +25 on my new wheels?

I am using the calculator on rimsandtires.com and with what everyone says the BS is (6.1") it is a 7.5" wheel. I am looking at a 17 x 8.5 wheel with 25 offset or BS of (5.73"). I am trying to keep as close to stock measurements/tucked under the fenders as possible.

3. Using the stock KO2's and switching to an 8.5 or even a 9" wheel, the calculator doesn't show the tire width or height changing. Is that correct?

I would assume if the wheel is 1" wider I would lose a little height....

Looking at the KMC XD series 131's by the way.

1. 7.5
2. I wouldn't go with +25 offset. If you are going with larger tires you want less back spacing so the tire doesn't rub when you turn.
3. With a wider wheel you will lose .1-.2 per half inch of width. It is negligible.

Thanks

Keeping the stock 285/70/17 KO2's, not going to a bigger tire.

So, with a +25 offset the tires would stick out about .37" more?

I have a related question. Looking at 8.5 wheels for my JLUR. Will stock BFGs be ok with these or is it too much stretch since stock is 7.5?

I will chime in here.
Stock wheels are 7.5" wide and offset is +44
Plenty of Rubicon owners are running their stock wheels with 315/70/17 tires with no lift and without any problems.
The wheels you referenced, XD 131s, 17x8.5 with +25 offset, will fit just fine. Given you want less tire poking out from under the fender flares, I would stay with a higher offset like you selected. Using your stock KO2s, the outer sidewall of your tire will stick out about 3/4 of an inch more than your stock set up. Even if you decide down the road that you want to run 35s, you'll be fine with these wheels.

Switched over to the XD129 holeshot. Have them on order... about a 2 week wait. They are 17x8.5 with a 34 offset. Based on the tire calculators I used, it should stick out .4" more than it does now. That will keep it just under the fender still.

+25 offset is perfect.

+12 to +18 will stick out more but still fit great.

Stock Rubicon tires will fit a 8.5" wheel fine. Almost every tire from 11" to 12.5" width will work great on a 8.5" wheels.
