Hello, I have an Xtreme Recon Wrangler that comes with the tailgate reinforcements and other stuff to fit the stock 35" wheel / tire combo that comes from the factory. I'm looking at switching out to a set of 37" BFG KO2's but the wheels i'll be getting are a 0 offset instead of the +18 or whichever the stock wheels are. What do I have to do if anything to make new wheels fit the tailgate carrier?

Thanks!

I am running a 37" KO2 on my 2022. Tire and wheel weighs 108 pounds. I ordered the tailgate reinforcement from the factory and added Teraflex adjustable carrier.

It can be slid fore and aft to get the snubbers to touch the tire. Ran that way for about 4 months and started to see some twist to the tailgate at the latch end and I replaced the factory reinforcement with the Teraflex hinge.

I should have skipped the factory piece and gone straight to the full Teraflex kit.

It moves the load from the tailgate to the hinge and places the tire right on the hinge frame.

I second the Teraflex HD. I have it combined with the Mopar reinforcement bracket and it works great. The best part is that it allows you adjust height and keep the tire tucked-in tight against the factory short tire pads at the tailgate. I also have 0 offset wheels and it hardly shows on the back-up camera.

I was thinking just the right side for 37's and keep the 35's on the left.

The tire carrier that comes with the xtreme recon already fits the 35's just fine, i'm just asking how I account for a wheel with different offset / backspacing.

The only way of properly supporting the new wheel and tire sizes is to replace the plastic factory carrier with one that can be adjusted both in/out and up/down.

Here's the Teraflex Alpha HD carrier...

I think you guys are over complicating it. The tire carrier I have will take 37s just fine. All I’m concerned about is a change in offset / backspacing which is an issue that every Jeep with aftermarket wheels has. How do most people solve this? Changing the tire bumps out for shorter / longer ones on the tail gate?

It might be doable with just this.

Depending on the total weight, when you see warping/flexing of your gate and hinges, you may want to look into an actual reinforced carrier (the Mopar is not hinge reinforcement).

You could re-use the factory carrier and change the bumps. They are trying to tell you that a better set-up is an adjustable tire carrier. If you are going from +18 to zero, your wheel will stick out more and you will need longer bumps. The problem is that it hangs out more and puts more stress on the tailgate. it will also probably partially obscure your back-up camera.

The adjustable tire carrier will allow you to suck it back in to the factory bump stops. In fact, my Teraflex carrier paired to the rugged ridge hinge eliminated the passenger side bump altogether. The tire rests on the hinge on that side.

I don't see any over complicating here.

Your Jeep came with a non adjustable plastic carrier that was specifically designed for the factory wheel and tire combination. Your new wheel will have less backspace, so it will sit further away and have more leverage over the gate. An adjustable carrier has the ability to be set to any backspace, to ensure that the tire is pressed firmly into the rubber bumpers on the tailgate.

The larger diameter tire will possibly interfere with the back bumper. An adjustable carrier also has different height settings, so it will accommodate taller tires.

This is the best way to do what your asking about: How to fit the different wheel and tire dimensions on your Jeep?

The Xtreme Recon package comes with 35x12.50x17 BFG KO2 tires on 17" heavy wheels. I'm going to a lighter wheel with a 37x12.50x17 BFG KO2 Load C tire, overall with the new Method wheels and 37's they will weigh less than what came stock on my Wrangler. It already has the Mopar reinforced tailgate kit and the tire relocation kit, they came standard. All I want to know is with a different offset how I adjust the bumps for more or less offset. I've seen other people use PVC, i'll do that. I'm not going to spend another 2k to replace what I already have for no reason.

Some people make their own tire stops, look on YouTube it is pretty simple. As for the weight, consider the Mopar reinforcement to help support the added 'weight' of the tire/wheel. If you have back up sensors, you'll most likely need a tire relocator to move your tire 'up' away from the sensors. Some are suggesting more lavish setups that absolutely work, but may or may not be really 'required' to run your setup. If you're going with something considerably heavier than 65lbs, you'll probably want to reinforce the tailgate. If you don't, you may end up with alignment issues down the road. There is no 100% absolute recommendation.
