Whats this bracket for?

Passenger side wheelwell at fire wall floor its bolted to the frame and seems kinda low. Seems odd to me to just be there

Ostensibly, it's an anti-rollover bracket.

The conventional wisdom is that it was installed as a reaction to rollover risk, in the form of the front wheel tucking itself under the vehicle in certain collision scenarios. The IIHS video makes it plain.
