If you can hold off a few months, probably you will start seeing some JLs with 35s, and then have a good idea how well they fit, and in what type of driving situations a lift might be considered. Plus you will also get an idea of the wheel offsets that work/look best.I want too! Just don’t have the money to keep doing modifications if it doesn’t work out & then having to buy tires again. I’m very stressed out about this whole tire thing as is lol
Personally I'm not a fan of the wheels that stick way out from the body, both for practical and aesthetic reasons. A few months from now you might see a JL with exactly the tire size/wheel offest you like - which would take a lot of the guesswork out of the purchase. Because otherwise as you suggested, could be an expensive mistake.
