I came across these video from Engineering Explained today talking about the updated test requirements for oil (GF-7 requirements) pretty interesting stuff. Some points that stood out to me were:
1. The 3.6l Pentastar is used for one of the test requirements!
2. Under the older GF-6 requirements, some oil formulations would past the requirements when new but would fail when used. This lends some weight to the idea that oils degarde over time, so I personally don't like to exceed 5k mile OCI even with full synthetic oil. I think it also lends some weight to the idea that not all oils are created equal.
3. Just because a specific oil type passes the GF-7 testing doesn't mean the formulation has changed from previous iterations of that oil. It just means now it is tested to a higher standard.
