Ok so got a 2020 JLU Rubicon Recon. Had it just at two years and 36300 miles on it. My battery went dead. Had to drive the forklift at work over to it in the parking lot to jump it off. Ughh. Anyways just went and got a new battery. Put the new battery in and now my UConnect system is all kinds of jacked up. Like half my apps and stuff are gone. Its like it reverted to a Sport or something. My back up cam does not show up, it does not show the passenger heated seat, XM Radio is gone, Off Road pages are gone, Most of the different settings pages are gone like for the head lights, heated seats controls, Camera, Aux Switches settings. You get the idea. Also the cluster display no longer says Rubicon on the Boot Screen just says Wrangler. I will say this. The Car Wifi that has not been working in the past several months seems to be working now! What the hell is going on here! Honestly starting to wonder if I even got a true Recon Edition considering mine didnt even come with the proper side and hood decals. What do I need to do to get this fixed. Id be dammed if Im gonna go to the dealer and have them tell me its gonna cost XXXX.00 amount of dollars to get this fixed because I'm 400 miles over the warranty. And is this gonna be something I have to deal with every time the battery has to be disconnected?

What do I need to do to get this fixed.
First thing is to relax.

Second is to let the vehicle sit for at minimum 24 hours for the radio to reset and learn the vehicle. The Uconnect radios are tightly integrated with the vehicle. When power is lost and restored, the radio needs time to read the vehicle via the CANBUS so it knows what features the vehicle has and what to enable. Patience here is a virtue.

Like he said. I disconnected the plug on the back to swap in a new radio and when it did not work like I thought it was supposed to, reinstalled the 8.4 and it took a day to work properly.

It all came back up this morning. I know the coms protocol is CAN and having used that just about everywhere I’ve ever worked it shouldn’t take that long for everything to talk. I was doing some looking around in other threads and saw one talking about the CAN system in these things. All I can say is DAMN. just about everything in this sucker is using that bus. So yeah I could see where it could take a bit, but on the other hand I’ve seen entire Oil Fields come up faster than that so… is what it is.

being as you have had the 8.4 out of the dash! I’m not sure how everything is hooked up on it or what connections it has back there, but is there a connection for the trail/front facing camera on there? I’ve been considering getting one, but not sure where it would even hook up to. I haven’t bothered to start digging yet so kind curious.

It doesn't really take that long, but it does take a little while. Most people say let it sit overnight because it's always back by the morning. When module die that slow "losing voltage" death from a dead battery they set all kinds of flags and codes internally about lost communications. It all usually comes back in about 40 minutes of driving or sitting. They all fall back to defaults until the system queries other modules for feature updates.

Yeah it always takes an hour or two for everything to go back to normal after a battery disconnection.

for the OEM trail cam, I looked into it a long time ago and discovered that no you can’t. For the trail can you need other things and most likely special programming. It is a completely different system. Both front and rear cameras connect to a special module and then the module connects to the radio. And the rear camera is a different one too. Unlike the jeeps with only a rear camera where the rear camera fakra connector connects directly to the back of the radio.
All in all it’s about >$2,000 and a huge hassle, even if you are able to get all the things needed and you somehow have the ability to program the trail cam into your Uconnect, which is currently not possible at all.

For front trail camera I got a cheap ($39 on Amazon pre-COVID price) license plate mounted wired camera. The small video screen that comes with it I stick on a magnetic dashboard phone mount.

Small investment to see if a front trail cam is really going to be as useful as you think it might be before you take the plunge into doing something a bit more involved in order to get front view camera. If you want even easier install there are wireless units for a little more money.
