So I’ll begin by explaining I first discovered this forum back in 2020 when shopping for my first JL…was looking at a used Sport and it had the 5” radio….not knowing how things worked, I figured I could just get an 8” from a junkyard and swap it…I quickly learned that things have changed (a lot) over the years, and that wasn’t really an option. Ended up buying a Sahara with the 8” screen, that has worked flawlessly for me.
I’ve got a chance to get a low mile ‘22 High Tide for a fantastic price, but it has the 7” screen…I can put up with it, but I really like the 8”, and I’ve seen some articles now indicating that the system is upgradable (have to have a dealer involved with adding it to the VIN, but don’t know if that really is the case or not). Also wondering if all of the additional “apps” that are currently available on my 8” (and not on the 7”) would be available in the High Tide after swapping to an 8”, for instance NAV, Off-road pages, etc.?
Not looking for advice on “just stick with the 7 inch”, but rather just want to know if it works or not. Like I said, I can live with the 7”, just really like the 8.
Also, just curious, the High Tide has the 3.6L etorque…from what I’ve read (briefly), that’s not a negative, but not that familiar with them, would appreciate thoughts on that as well.
thanks

It has nothing to do with the vehicle being a "High Tide" model. If you get a NAV radio, it will have NAV. Off Road Pages is hit or miss. You will likely need a Tazer or the JSCAN app to enable Off Road Pages. I did when I swapped in my 8" radio. All other apps should be there.

The 8" radio should be plug-and-play. It all depends on where you get the 8" radio from. The one I bought from Infotainment.com was plug-and-play. I simply swapped it for the 7" that came with my vehicle and it worked. If the radio came out of another vehicle (meaning it has been used) you will need either the radio unlock code or the previous vehicle's VIN so that you can obtain the unlock code.

Thanks for the comments and the reminder…”infotainment.com” was the business that I had read about doing the replacement through, but I couldn’t remember what (vender) it was.

I swapped out my 7” for the 8” as well in my ‘23 Sport. Purchased through infotainment. It was pretty much plug and play. I had also purchased the XM antenna, which was more of a pain. I do have the Tazer, but everything works, including ORP and the NAV perfectly. I never figured out the software updates though. And the jeep app sadly stopped working after the new install.
