Uconnect 5 and Voice Control Buttons

My VC buttons don't work to make or answer calls. Took to dealer, they told me "The VC buttons don't work unless you have phone connected" ? my phone is connected ?

Then they told me VC only works when using Android Auto, that I can confirm the voice control does work, but I hardly ever use AA because I find it very frustrating ?

Owners manual makes no such statement about VC buttons and Android Auto.

Can anyone confirm dealership tech is correct?

They are incorrect. You should be able to pair your phone with Uconnect and make/receive calls without Android Auto or CarPlay.

Are you sure your phone is paired via Uconnect and not just when AA is connected?

Yes, phone has been paired and unpaired several times. Samsung Revvl+5G

If this helps....I have a 2021 JLUR and have phone Bluetooth to 8.4 UConnect. No wires needed. I have to do a long hold(push) of the talk button between the red and green phone buttons. It will then open Siri on my iPhone and all audio is through the Jeep speakers. This only opens up Siri control on iPhone doesn't control UConnect hands free.

For UConnect hands free...If I tap the same button, instead of a long hold, it will open up UConnect on the 8.4 for the Jeeps voice control, separate from phone. Like for navigation, radio or HVAC controls via hands free.

Also via Bluetooth I can play any audio from iPhone through the UConnect, like Spotify or SXM, with no wires or connecting to ApplePlay.
Some think you have to use ApplePlay to play music through UConnect.

Not so. They should work with a non-nav radio. They worked on my 7” before I swapped it for an 8” nav unit.

As previously mentioned, if the phone is paired via Uconnect, the steering wheel controls should work.

I suggest factory resetting your radio.

Mine only seems to activate Siri. No option to control comfort settings.

Stopped by my dealer again today, salesperson came out to my Jeep to take a look at my Uconnect etc. Seemed perplexed so they went inside to talk to tech ?.....

Now they are telling me I need ALEXA or WiFi to use the Voice Command Buttons !!!!


I did a factory reset and I'm seeing things I didn't have initially but still no VOICE selection like in this picture...
