Turn signal connector?

OK, trying to fish a wire into the cabin...I discovered it's way easier to remove the whole plastic fender than the inner piece only, UNTIL you get to the wiring connector for the turn signal. I've pulled the little red slider out, which should be the release, but the &*%&$# thing absolutely won't let go. What am I doing wrong? Thanks,

I am currently encountering this same challenge. The red tab is extracted but cannot figure out how to separate the connector. Can anybody assist?
