I've been into jeeps for a long time, but haven't had the time to tinker for about a decade until recently. Decided to jump back into it head first by buying a low mileage 2019 Moab package at a salvage auction that got into salt water up to the bottom of the dash. It took out the amplifier, shifter, seat belt mechanisms, and most unfortunately, the BCM. Everything is now responding on the CAN network except the transmission. I've ohm'ed out the can wires, the power, the ground, all seems to be in order there. I dropped the pan to see if any water got in, didn't see any evidence of that. Not sure what's going on there, but that's not my largest concern: After replacing the BCM, I'm still not able to program the VIN in using JSCAN or AlfaOBD. I was able to blank out the donor VIN, but now it just shows ?????????? where the vin should be. Here's where I think I'm stuck and need some guidance: I have two key fobs that work (unlock, lock, panic buttons all respond). Proximity data in JSCAN shows when they are inside the vehicle correctly. At no point have I been able to change the key position from OFF to ACC or to ON, and so I think this is keeping me from programming the VIN. The only error code I'm getting from the RFHM is U1517-62 (BCM Secret Code-Signal Compare Failure), which makes sense. Seems like a horse and cart problem: If the BCM and RFHM code needs to match to enable the ignition to turn on, then how can you program it if you can't get the ignition to turn on? Any thoughts on what might be going on or the criteria for the RFHM to turn on ignition?
ECM is happy other than the transmission issue. Engine will run for approx 5 seconds when I hot wire the ignition relay and starter. Then it shuts off I'm assuming due to the OK code missing from the RFHM.
I already reached out to the JSCAN people on their facebook. They said try this and that, but didn't have any solution for me. They were thinking the RFHM module should be able to turn on the ignition if it sensed keys were present.
