I recently tore up my trailer hitch plug when dropping off a rock shelf, luckily it barely scraped the spare tire. Is anyone running any type of a trailer hitch skid plate? Maybe like this.

I am running the same one and have for several years. It most certainly does the job, we do a lot of rocks and is helpful.

The copy available on Amazon works quite well too.

I run the Skid Mark 4x4 slider when in Moab. It's held up fine, is well-made, and not too expensive. It's brutish enough that you don't have to worry about bending it if you come down hard on a ledge.
