So I got a set of 5 new wheels with tires at Discount Tire. I had them install aftermarket sensors, which I’ve read here are the same as the JK ones (not confirmed, just someone saying “I heard...”). Regardless, the sensor type was in their computer, so that’s the one they installed.

They told me what I’ve read a ton of other places - just put them on and drive the car for 5-10 minutes above 15 mph and the car will find them and everything will just work.

Several trips of 30 minutes or more and they didn’t work.

TodayI took it back and they said something else that I read on a forum as well - if they don’t automatically work, they may have to be manually activated and synced to the car. They have a computer to do this, so the guy went around to each wheel... beep beep beep beep beep. Plugged it in to the JL, and the JL wouldn’t let him upload the sensor info for some reason.

They didn’t really know why it wasn’t taking the manual programming, but told me that all of them were “activated” and that the car should see them now. Two 30 minute trips later, and it still doesn’t see any of them.

So I’m wondering a few things...

#1 - Has anyone gone to Discount and gotten aftermarket units on their JL that work? If so, what model did you get (should be on the receipt).

#2 - Anyone have any idea why it wouldn’t let them manually sync like every other car? (The guy tried two computer units and neither would let him sync).

#3 - Would swapping my OEM sensors be guaranteed to work? I’d really rather not haul all 5 old wheels there and have them play the mount/dismount game 10 times if it doesn’t going to work in the end.

This is weird, and I’ve never had this issue with any other car. I wish Chrysler would do their TPMS like Mazda, which doesn’t put the stupid sensors in the wheels.

I might have to resort to that, sadly.

@i64X Well we have had 2 here recently say Discount Tire installed generic TPMS and all was well, and now you and @Wildmank99 saying you had issues... So, I do not know.

I communicated with a guy that used Shrader TPMS's and had no problem.

Sure your TPMS from the stock tires will work.

I might just do that. Ill have to haul all of my stockers back over there but at least I’ll get a refund for $150 worth of aftermarket sensors.

I reused the stock ones from the stock Sport tires in the Rubicoin wheels and tires and now the current tires. All have worked perfect with stock sensors.

Only reason I asked if they would is because I saw a post from another dude who said he used his stock ones in aftermarket wheels and they still didn’t work until the pulled them apart and installed them at some weird angle. I just wish I could turn the crap off.

Well, if you by the Tazer programmer you can turn them off.

Your dealer may be able to reset those TPMS sensors (generic or not) if you need to do.

The only option that you can do is buy the tazer programmer module and it can turn off the tpms sensors suppose and do many more things I think it’s like 300 dollars

Discount Tire should give you $ back for TPMS's and labor.

OK not a Jeep but my father ran into the same issue with his Toyota Camry.

Bought a set of winter tires with rims and after market sensors. They did not work and had to have the dealer program them. When he put the summer rims with stock TPMS back on they did not work because of the reprogram. He said screw it and left it that way. Winter came again and now the system does not recognize the after market TPMS that were programed and working previous season.

I suggest to get your original TPMS to avoid additional aggravation.

I don’t think they charged me labor for installation of those specifically, just the normal $19/tire mount. I fully expect to get the $ for the TPMS back since they don’t work, unless they can get them working (which I doubt). I don’t expect to pay to have them put my stock TPMS in the aftermarket wheels though either, which I doubt they’ll try to push since they can’t get the sensors they sold me to work. The guys at my Discount Tire are good dudes, I just don’t look forward to taking the car seats out of the back and hauling everything back to Discount, which is a half an hour away, for the third time. Ah well.
