Hello,

2019 Rubicon just started to make an odd thud or light bang sound after being started. It’s an odd sound and does not sound like a misfire and can not be felt, meaning there is no harsh vibration. It only happens every now and then. It’s not the AC as we always turn it off before turning the truck off. The sound seems to be coming from the front of the vehicle. Anyone else experience this?

We're sorry to hear this, Bigbobo! Have you made your servicing Jeep dealer aware of this odd thud? Please feel free to send our team a message if you would like additional support while at the dealer.

It’s the auto start/stop drive system. The loudness of the thud depends on how hard you’re pushing the brake pedal when it starts. If you release the pedal just before the engine catches, it won’t make the sound. Welcome to Jeep life.

If it was the auto Start/Stop do you feel that we would hear that on the initial start up? The symptom that we are experiencing is that the first cold start of of the day seems ok. However, subsequent starts (not all of them) after the first start of the day will exhibit the sound. It almost sound like a large AC clutch sound or a metal on metal sound of a trany shifting into gear. In this case the truck is in Park and the AC is off.

Did you solve this yet? I noticed the problem the other day. It was when the engine was hot.

I tried to replicate the problem on cold start and could not.
