Air filter every other oil change

I change mine at 5k miles.
A new engine air filter every 10K miles? Or cabin air filter? The replacement interval for the former, as stated in the manual, is every 30K miles, unless daily driving in observably dusty environments. Just wondering about the condition of the filter in question when it's being replaced so frequently.

Honestly I never looked. Just got into the habit of changing it every 10k.
It’s cheap enough while I’m already in the middle of all other PMs.

Bride has had a few Subaru Outbacks in the past for her commuting, and the last couple were a real pain to work on, as you stated. I insisted she get rid of the thing after a very slight hit to the rear quarter damaged the vehicle all the way into the spare tire well. That was a 2013 wagon, good riddance. She's been in Grand Cherokees ever since.
That's weird. In my family we have two Outbacks and a Forester, those are all really simple to change the oil on. On two of them the filter is on top of the engine, very similar to the Jeep 3.6, the other Outback, mine, you have a removable panel in the belly pan that allows easy access to the filter.

@Heimkehr

oh. That said, when I do swap them out they’re generally not that bad.
a little discolored is about it. ??

coming back from a Moab trip recently was at 20k miles on the clock so swapped all filters.
Cabin air filter, gross.
Engine air filter, stained red.

Only diff is we let the oil pan drain for an hour
Even then it still drips
WTF!

But all our vehicles do that
Otherwise takes less that 5 minutes
Haha!
Yeah it’s almost impossible to get every last drop out.
You could flush it with water ☠

Please don’t do that. Flushing with water can lead to emulsiphication.

I’ve had really really ocd friends that used clean oil to flush. But that was back when oil was $1/qt.

The last one she had was a belly pan, as I recall, and also seems as though I had to stick my hand up into a hot recessed area to reach the filter(although that could be the previous one she had). Of course, then there were the headlamps which required removal of the inner fender (fun in the winter). Lastly was the bump to the rear as I mentioned previously.

Having faffed about with fender liners on my wife's Honda, simply to install a set of fog light bulbs, I don't mind at all having to remove the Jeep's grille, and then the headlight assemblies, to change bulbs.
