I just bought a JLUR last week, it's my first jeep and 4x4 vehicle so obviously I'm a total noob at 4 wheeling.

Sway bar disconnect when do you use it and when shouldn't you?

What are the lockers for and when should and shouldn't you use them?

How do you shift into 4H and 4L? I know not to use 4wd them unless your on dirt or low traction surfaces

I could use all the info and tips I can get.

YouTube is your best friend honestly...plenty of videos on how and when to use them and explaining how they work. Just sort them per rating. Pretty informative imho

I've been watching 4wd/jeep related vids on YouTube. I can't find any good videos JL demonstrating videos on using 4wd, lockers SBD ect. Most of the JL vids talk about the features and opinions about them

Just look for general 4wd videos...it doesn't have to be JL related.

Shifting into 4H, this can be done at speeds below 80km/h(50mp/h), simply pull the shift leaver from 2H to 4H. It should engage without any issue. To shift into 4L, move the Jeep to a slight incline so that it can roll forward. Put you foot on the break, place the transmission into neutral. Slowly release the break so the Jeep rolls forward slowly, pull the transfer case lever from 4H to N to 4L. Do not force it as it can cause damage if not done carefully.
The sway bar can be used whenever the terrain has a major height difference between the left and right wheel. Example, getting over a larger rock covering half the trail. Disconnecting the sway bar will allow for more articulation of the front axle. This will allow the wheels to stay on the ground and provide greater traction.
Axle lockers, these can only be used in 4L as well and at low speeds, if driven above a certain speed, they will disconnect. Use the lockers whenever their is wheel spin from slippery terrain. As engine power will flow to the wheel with the least amount of resistance. Locking the axle will devide the power equaly between the two wheels. You can only lock the axle in a rear or front rear setup. The front axle cannot be engaged separately.
Hope this helped, sorry for any spelling mistakes, I typed this on my phone.

YUP, as said--look for 4wd/jeep videos on youtube--especially JK-

I'm not sure of the JL, but When ever I got off-road I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO 4HI and put the swaybar dis-on-makes driving/riding so much enjoyable-

Go out with a club/friends/others--you shouldn't try to learn alone-

Good luck

Read the manual, it'll answer many of your questions.

Look for videos about the JK. The offroad features are essentially the same between the JK and the JL.

And yeah, definitely join a club. Not only will going out with others keep you from getting stranded, and not only can they help you figure out how best to use your vehicle, but they're also a great resource for questions like "what mechanic/dealership can I trust".

Also if you're in California as it appears there are no shortage of organized off-road events. Jeep Jamborees in particular are great learning opportunities.

Practice switching from high to low range and back to high in a non stressful location. They change best at a slight roll, but sometimes you don't have that luxury.
You have to settle for a little wheel slip and then try again.
Same with lockers, get to know them before going off road. Don't use front locker unless you really need it.
