Both my Wife and oldest daughter are speech pathologists...my wife says I am pretty high functioning..my daughter says I am not as high as my wife claims......definitely a challenging field.

My understanding is, this is the BEST description of autism...

I am not on the smart end of the spectrum.....that was as cool as it gets...

My niece has Autism. She has gone from being told in grade school she would never read, hiding under her desk, growling at other students and biting her teacher, to driving and attending junior college. She still has many challenges but doesn’t give up or let Autism define her.

both my wife and daughter have been bit many times..there was one little guy that my wife had to wear knee pads because he was a knee biter...the biting is not necessarily being aggressive or mean but a sensory thing. fortunately like your niece there are a lot success stories and a lot of progress is being made.
