My rental collection company put out a strikingly similar cheery email to tell us that they were making big wonderful changes which involved new fees and nothing else, for our benefit of course 😂, but don’t worry! You can just charge it to someone else!

Looking forward to the Tredder spin doctors doing to the same.

Sorry it took so long to post a response here. I called my agent at PolicyWatch, they are contracted by Tredder, and he couldn't provide any specifics, but thought maybe, they cold be planning to reduce the number of states they serve. If that is so, then it makes me think they could be looking to become an admitted insurer which requires getting licensed in each state they serve. Let me make clear, this is just a guess on my part. I do know that when I signed up with Tredder, they said they were non-admitted:

"This coverage is being offered by a non-admitted insurer who is not licensed with state insurance departments. The insurer is not subject to the same regulations as an admitted insurance carrier including financial solvency regulations or enforcement. The carrier may not be subject to certain State Guaranty Fund or Association requirements."

Here is a google summary of non-admitted insurer:

A "non-admitted insurer" refers to an insurance company that is not licensed by a specific state to operate within its borders, meaning they do not have to follow the same regulations as licensed (admitted) insurers, and are typically used for high-risk or specialized insurance needs that standard carriers might not cover; also known as a "surplus lines" or "excess lines" carrier.

Key points about non-admitted insurers:

Less regulation:
They have less stringent regulatory oversight compared to admitted insurers, allowing them to offer more flexible coverage options for unique risks.

Specialty coverage:
Often provide insurance for high-risk situations like coastal property, emerging industries, or complex liability scenarios that standard insurers might not cover.

No state guarantee:
If a non-admitted insurer becomes insolvent, policyholders may not be protected by the state's guaranty fund, meaning they may not receive full claim payouts.

Surplus lines office oversight:
While not regulated by the state insurance department directly, non-admitted insurers are typically overseen by a state's "surplus lines office".

Important Update About Your Tredder Policy
Hello ,

We’re reaching out with an important update regarding your insurance policy with Tredder.

As part of our effort to strengthen the long-term foundation of our business, we’re temporarily pausing renewals while we secure new financial and underwriting partners. This means your current policy will remain active through its term, but will not be renewed at expiration.

We know this isn’t ideal news, and we want to be upfront about where things stand. Tredder has grown quickly, and as we look to scale responsibly, we’re taking this time to rebuild the financial and operational support we need to continue offering specialized coverage for enthusiasts like you.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Your policy will stay active until its expiration date, unless you choose to cancel earlier.
  • We will not be issuing renewal offers when your policy term ends*.
  • You’ll continue to receive full support and claims servicing throughout your active policy period.

We deeply appreciate your trust in Tredder and the community we’ve built together. Our mission remains the same — protecting the builds, gear, and adventures that matter most. We’re working hard behind the scenes to relaunch with renewed strength and stability.

If you have any questions please reach out to us at [email protected].

Thank you for being part of the Tredder journey.
Sincerely,
The Tredder Team

Tredder Inc.

*Note: If your policy is scheduled to expire within the next 45 days, you will still be eligible to receive a renewal offer in accordance with your policy terms.

Makes it all feel like a scam. They collected a ton of $$ without having to deal with claims.
