We ordered our Rubicon in September 2021, picking it up on 10 June 2022. It was a long and costly saga that probably doesn't deserve to be on a build thread. Thanks to Les at Heartland Jeep Castle Hill for getti
Needless to say, due to the long delays, we had things bought and things booked long before the arrival of our big girl. We had a bunch of things in storage, built up over the 8 months while we waited like our AEV suspension lift, Tazer, a thousand storage options etc.
First up though, was sending the Rubi to ARB at McGraths Hill NSW for the install of the Rhino Rack backbone system and roof racks. We also had the 270 degree batwing installed at the same time along with a bonus shovel. We had booked the Rubi in a couple of months before hand at a 4WD and Camping Show where we got some nice discounts. Due to the delays in delivery, we rebooked a couple of times but in the end, she went to ARB only a few days after we took delivery.
Then came wheels and tyres. We had been to speak with a great local tyre guy at Tyres Plus. For off road repairs to dents in the wheels, and price, we got Kings steel wheels, 17x8. Tyres are Maxxis Razr MT772 295/70-17. I had wanted Nitto Trail Grapplers as I had on my previous JK but we cannot get them in Australia. After some review, the Maxxis seem a good alternative. Whilst I would have loved to go bigger, we have some fairly stringent policing of 4WDs in our area so the size and offset were chosen to remain legal (barely).
The car is currently in the the capable hands of Frank at ATV Automotive in Five Dock, SYDNEY. She is undergoing the lift with the AEV JL 2.5 Dualsport RT lift, AEV rear bar and tyre holder and a Warn Eco 12s winch.
Future upgrade will be the KC Lites Flex Era 4 Combo lights. We do have an issue with these on where to put them. We got a hoop bar to fit the standard steel front bar but now have removed the obvious spot for the lights. I am not keen on mounting them on the bar itself because we were going for the low front look but not sure if we can. The hoop may have to go.
Of course, we have the Taser to install as well, looking forward to that! With recovery gear installed, we are looking forward to finally getting off road, back to our former playgrounds.
