My steering wheel just recently started looking like this in a few spots. I've only had the Jeep for about a year and a half and just wouldn't expect the steering wheel to be wearing already. I had a 2016 Chrysler 200 previously with what felt like the same material that never did this. Has anyone else run into this before and if so, is there anything I can buy to remedy it? I tried to find a similar thread but maybe I didn't look in the right place.

Ya got the same thing happening on our 2018 , only have 55000 km on it I blame it on covid
That's unfortunate. I have just under 19,000 miles and wouldn't expect this to happen so soon. Covid knows I've never (knowingly) caught it so it's going to make my steering wheel ugly. I also blame it.

Anyone know a part number/price for the OEM leather wheel without the airbag and the electronics? Mine is getting beat up too, more from catching the wheel while rock crawling and all the weird maneuvers needed when out there. Would rather replace the whole wheel than use a cover.

Have you tried a firm wipe with a pre-wetted cleaning wipe (like armorall or lysol or something) and/or leather treatment stuff? It's hard to tell from your photo if the wear is permanent or not.

Sorry, the picture isn't the greatest. I used an ArmorAll cleaning wipe last night because I thought it was just some gunk on there but it made the spot much larger. It's almost like there is a finish that is coming off the top of the leather. It's not sticky or anything. I bought some leather treatment that I am going to try tonight and see if that helps.

I also found this on Mopar's website that might be what you're looking for. My phone won't let me paste the link though. :(

Hm, that's not too bad of a price, I used to see easily double that for a steering wheel for my old BMW. No way you should pay for that on a rig that's only a year old.

I would take it in. I had some issues with the clear coat of the chrome around the Jeep logo on the airbag wearing off, and then eventually the chrome itself revealing the bare gray plastic underneath. For some reason, the cleaning solution I was using (I believe it was TOUGH Wipes, should be safe) wore it off. I took the Jeep in and they swapped the airbag for free under warranty.

Are you getting in your vehicle and using hand sanitizer and touching the wheel before hands are completely dry?

Thanks for the feedback, it's appreciated! I wouldn't have thought something like that would be covered under my warranty, but I'll have the dealership take a look at it.

Not often do I use sanitizer in the vehicle, but if I do I usually make sure it's all dry before i touch anything. I'll use lotion, but its always rubbed into my hands before I even make it out of my house.

Have any of you tried an upholstery shop? Maybe they can replace the wrap around the wheel for cheaper than a full replacement.

Unless he is using something that is damaging the wheel he shouldn’t have to. Should hold up better than this. I’ve seen guys with the same issu on 4Runner forum, it was from hand sanitizer.

Probably caused by the oil and gunk from your hand.
I have a no-food policy in my Jeep and my steering wheel on my 2018 with 53,000 km is literally brand new also because I wipe it down with leather conditioner every few month.

I'll eat in my Jeep but not while I'm actually driving and I try to keep my hands as clean as possible. I know that doesn't help and I'm sure I could have cleaned it more than I normally would. I was just wondering if anyone had any products that helped other than basically replacing the whole thing. I did all of the same things in my previous car with the same type of leather steering wheel and it never happened so I thought I would be alright. If it can't be covered under warranty, I'll just have to live with it or get a cover. It's just disappointing more than anything.

There is nothing you can put on it to fix it, the damage is already done. All you can do is try and prevent it from getting worse or replace it.
