As another posted, "parts is parts" but consider what will happen to the spare tire in a crash. Let's say you're tooling along at 60-mph when a drunk crashes into you. The vehicle comes to a stop but that unsecured spare tire is still traveling at 60-mph...possibly forward into you and your passengers. That's gonna leave a bruise or two. Or worse. Unless the tire is bolted down...and even if it is you're rolling the dice. It's the same principle why human passengers need to be belted in. You may find yourself being sued by your passengers for their injuries even if you didn't cause the crash.Well, I recently read if getting rear ended the rear tire takes on the brunt of the impact, creating significant damage the tailgate etc. The rear bumper doesn't really get to do its job protecting the vehicle. The way people text and drive this has me somewhat concerned.
He's so ADORABLE!!!!![]()
Sure... fuck around and find out...![]()

Strongly suggest you leave the tire where it is.
I know you were being light and I get it but...If you were endangering only your life it might be one thing. Unfortunately, that's likely not the case with the OP.What's life owning a Wrangler if you're not living dangerously!...
Small spare inside not outsideHmmm- 3A width 57.1”— with skinny spare 63.1”, it was moved to the back. JL width 73.9” add a spare, typically 11.50 or 12.50 that won’t be completely against the body to get ripped off ? ?
I didn't think about it like that, you make a great point and I appreciate it. This is why I wanted to have this conversation. I'm getting kind of old and have a tendency to worry a little more than I did when I was younger. As another posted, "parts is parts" but consider what will happen to the spare tire in a crash. Got it— I thought you meant on the outside like the early CJ’s to allow a functional tailgate. Secured upright inside would be fine if you don’t need the cargo room. ?Small spare inside not outside
I WAS STRANDED WITHOUT A SPARE TIRE TWICE, ONCE IN DETROIT MIWhat's life owning a Wrangler if you're not living dangerously!
You should do like these "luxury" vehicles do nowadays, completely delete the spare, and run around with a tire repair kit/air device. That's what I do, I haven't even had to use it in a year and a half. If you're going on a long trip, or you live in a small pissant town where there isn't a tire shop nearby, then carrying a spare is probably good idea, but if you're like me and there's three tire shops within a mile of my house, and I live in a pretty populated area, is really no point in caring a spare. There's enough other options that you don't need to carry a spare. As long as you're maintaining your proper PSI, and inspecting your tires regularly, I've personally never had a blowout in my entire life. I don't understand how people let their tires get that far that they do blow out. ?![]()
NEVER AGAIN.Just once— long wait for AAA, unrepairable by repair van, long wait for tow, towed to tire shop, no match, sprung for new tires when the old ones had a good years tread left. ?I WAS STRANDED WITHOUT A SPARE TIRE TWICE, ONCE IN DETROIT MINEVER AGAIN.
