Hi, I've read the ESS [ start button] is run by the secondary little hidden battery and if that battery is kaput or the fuse blown than good luck starting your rig . Are there any spare fuses placed in the fuse box or do you recommend buying few extra fuses? I am just shaking my head and I really do not know if I am not paranoid again?

Kluk: the 3.6L JL must see power in the ESS/Aux battery before a cold crank is attempted but once confirmed, both batteries energize the starter to crank the engine. I can't speak to the specifics on the 2.0L JL models.

I would think the single best failsafe to problems in this area is to use Jerry @Jebiruph's hack. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/3-6l-ess-aux-battery-bypass.17293/

This permanently connects both batteries in parallel 100% of the time, as opposed to the factory default: which is to have them in parallel 99.9% of the time, barring 1)an instant prior to cold crank to test the ESS/Aux battery and only proceed with the crank attempt if the ESS/Aux battery has sufficient power, and 2) ESS events themselves where the ESS/Aux battery powers appliances while the engine is off at a stop light.

I am of the personal belief that if you make this hack permanent that you disconnect it prior to Dealer visits, and that you don't run the ESS system with it because it might trick the 3.6L JL into entering an ESS event when it shouldn't. This is because the ESS/Aux battery may lack the power normally needed for the 3.6L to enter an ESS event, but this isn't seen as such because the ESS/Aux battery is connected to the main battery in parallel with this hack.

Equally important, the 3.6L might maintain the ESS event longer than would be the case if the hack weren't in place, if the ESS/Aux battery has lost sufficient charge during the event powering appliances while the rig's engine is off, but this might not be seen because the hard connected main battery is "backing it," robbing this larger battery of necessary power to bear the burden of the power load for the crank.

Many an ESS event for me as ended sooner this summer than it might in winter give the demands of the air conditioning system.

These caveats of not, IMHO, running ESS not only don't detract from the beauty of the hack, but some consider my recommendation of not allowing ESS to engage with it installed a feature: ESS widely hated among most forum members it seems.

Please don't believe removing the ESS/Aux battery will prevent ESS events. Well..actually it will..because your rig won't start up without this smaller battery or tricking the 3.6L into thinking it's there somehow.

As for fuses, I have an assortment at home but I always have, not because of Wrangler ownership. I'd like to see what others say about carrying them on board, and which ones.

I imagine the gear you run and your distance from civilization might be factors that dictate any gear packing decision, fuses alike.
